Title: Apple Juice
Post by: Oldman on November 24, 2007, 10:24:20 AM
We all know about the problems with the imported pet foods, toys etc. from the Chinese. Did you know that there are reports that up to 55% of all apple juice we drink comes from the Chinese? I saw a documentary not to long ago that stated that the Chinese are treating their apple trees with items we banned years, ago.

QuoteBecause of USDA concerns about the introduction of new apple pests and diseases, China isn't allowed to export apples to the USA, but it is allowed to export apple juice concentrate because processing eliminates some   of the health concerns.
Gee I feel so much better now. All warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks USDA~~!

Olds,

That is an alarming statistic and one I wasn't aware of. Although I live in Canada I'm sure the situation is the same. My family buys organic at all costs but I see now that even the organic apple juice concentrate is largely imported from china in most cases. When I see an organic product that is imported from China, I assume that the standards and reliability of such a product is much lower or nill compared to North America, and I won't purchase. As a matter of fact, I won't knowingly purchase any product from China if at all possible (which is becoming increasingly impossible). Thanks for the heads up Olds. I found this website you may be interested in. Cheers

I am generally not one who would boycott all products because they come from a certain country. But in this case I'm getting close to being 100% with you guys. The reason I say almost 100% is that if my Bradley fails or if I need another, I will have to purchase it. :)

Seriously, many products from China can create serious health problems or risks.

China is the largest exporter of fruit drinks in the world. Get used to it! Even though it says, made in XX.. it is really imported from China, then just packaged or labelled in that country. Not much isn't made in China or Pakistan, Vietnam, etc.

Let's see:
They killed a bunch of folks with their tooth paste.
They killed a bunch of pets with their pet foods.
They use lead in paints for toys.
They use a solvent on beaded toys that if swallow create the same effect as a Date Rape Drug.

Get use to it? That may be some folks choice... but it is not mine.

After much review I've just order this juicer: http://www.discountjuicers.com/omega8005.html It is much easier to clean then my current one. BTW China cannot export whole apples to this country ;D

Wasn't China one of the countries that Bush listed in the "axis of evil"?  If so, then perhaps this is their way of responding.  Bet your bottom dollar that I am going to watch what I buy in the future.

No, it was Iran, Iraq and North Korea.

I have to do some research, but I am pretty sure that in the USA, the country of origin always has to be on the label. Though it may be sold under a brand name.

Never said anyone had to like it or that it was right, Olds. For the mass population you can't get around the cheap labour and goods from china so companies can make larger profits.
