Title: Florida Vacation
Post by: car54 on January 12, 2008, 12:03:45 PM
I am contemplating a Florida vacation on the 1st week of March. What do you Floridians think the high points of Florida are besides the normal tourist stuff.

Should try to catch a shuttle launch.

I don't live there, but go about every year. Been to West Palm, Daytona, Orlando, Miami, Panama City, Tampa, and all ports in between. Something good about all of them, but Miami is much too crowded and nobody speaks English. Going to  Ft. Lauderdale again in April if nothing happens. Just depends on what you like, but as Arcs said, a shuttle launch would be awsome.

Funny you should say that OnTrack...I'm headed there for 10 days...middle of Feb. I'm from FL...grew up in Daytona...worked in Orlando and traveled a lot to the west coast (and Miami)...It's a pretty state...I'd avoid Miami too...but if you're into to "night life" it can be fun...The Keys are something special...if even just to say you went to the southern most point in the US...PM me if you want more info on some kool places to go...and I'm sure the Florida contingent will chime in...:)

LQ, I do like the nightlife, but not as much as I get older. It seems like Miami's nightlife doesn't start hoppin until I've already been to bed and ready to get back up to greet the morning. I haven't made it to the Keys yet. We were plannning to go year before last but ended up going to Cancun instead.

Depends on what your interests are.

Amusement Parks
Historical Sites
Beaches
Scenic Sites
Museums

You tell us.

Everyone is right about avoiding Miami. That is unless you are hispanic or can at least speak spanish. LOL

Mike, I'll be 47 this year and it gets harder to do every year, no matter how much I practice. The alcohol poisoning catches me after about the third day, so there is usually a day in there where I lay around and moan and promise never to drink again. Then I get up the next morning and...well, I'd say you can guess the rest of the story. ;)

TT, I haven't "reseen" food in over 20 years (unless it was the flu or a virus). I like to think of myself as a professional...my wife likes to think of me as an alcoholic.

Keep up the good work!

Practice, practice, Iceman. But to keep a somewhat level head, I only drink now on days (and nights) that end with the letter "y". 8)

I once heard somebody say "Drink Canada Dry", so I thought nah...too easy, and tried to drink the USA dry for about 5 years......never succeeded.  So now I only have a couple every now and again.

I like you too, LQ. And I promise I'll be good-I don't throw up, spill drinks, fall down, or break anything. I may not be a father figure around young kids, but other than than I'm harmless. And I know when I've had my limit-I just quietly slip off and go to bed. (Not always MY bed, but a dog bed, pickup bed, flower bed...) ;)

We happen to have a "little" house you can go out and throw up, fall down, or do anything you're little heart desires in (with the missus...) not attached to our house...a casita as we call them here in the desert...gots a fridge too...filled with beer and other "stuff"! Got a coffe pot for the next morning when you feel like chit too!! :)

My gosh LQ! That sounds much better than the trip we were planning. I was looking at Ft. Lauderdale for our 22nd anniversary on April 22nd (I actually thought it was 23 years), but anything decent oceanfront is $350-$500 per night! What in the heck is up with that?? We can go anywhere in the Carribean all-inclusive for less than half that price. We were wanting to stay in the US this year, but I'm not paying that kind of money...I think I'll check Vegas, went there 3 years in a row but it's been a couple of years. Always a blast, just wish there was an ocean there. Would also love to see San Fran, but it's not warm enough. I need heat!! Maybe back to Aruba, never been to Jamaica, how about Paradise Island? Can do all inclusive there (the only way I can come out ahead), plus they have gambling AND an ocean! Can you tell I'm ready for a vacation? The high temp here Sunday is supposed to be in the high teens, and I don't even want to talk about the lows. Did I mention I need heat? Now? 8)

Yo Ontrack...come on down dude...we got heat (well for you we do!!) It was 68 today and we have the fireplace on...yeah...I know we're weather "fairys"...we'd just like to see a cloud more then 2 times a year? Pool is warm...spa is even warmer...the good news is...we wouldn't even know what you two were doing in that little house (thank God, I'm sure). There is a lot of fun stuff to do out here...22 years that is impressive...sounds like you're good peeps!!!

I think you'll recover quicker if you cut out all that exercise between sitting at bars. :P

Over a year on this site and I feel like I've found a home.  Trying to figure out where I visit first: Alaska (goose bay), Palm Desert (I'll bring my clubs and some suds), or Ontrack's vacation destination (I'll purchase life insurance).

LQ-32 degrees here now and dropping, snow on the way. I got called in to work at 3:30 this morning after 2 hours of sleep and WAY too many last night.Got home about 9:30 this morning and put a turkey breast on the smoker. Now I'm ready for a nap. Just hope the wife keeps an eye on the weather for me. Speaking of weather-68 degrees and the fireplace on? I have plenty of winter clothes if you would like to borrow some. :P You just reminded me how much I hate this place. If I live long enough to retire, you can bet your a$$ I'll be somewhere HOT! My toes haven't hit the sand since September, and I need a vacation.Did I mention that already?

Title: Re: Florida Vacation

I think you have to be loaded to ride on one.  As for a DUI, probably.  I read two stories recently about guys who won DUIs on ride-a-mowers (one American, one Aussie).

There was a story in our paper today about a guy in New Zealand getting a DUI on a lawn mower. They impounded it for 28 days... ::)

My daughter's in-laws were nice enough to rent their Florida home for $300.00 a week. It is in Cape Coral.
