Title: timer help
Post by: gatormike on January 24, 2008, 09:05:32 PM
Not sure if anyone is up but I just put a nice butt into the smoker and set it up with 4 hours of hickory smoke but expect to need 8 hours or more of heat. Problem: the max oven time on the DBS seems to be 4 hours meaning the temp will cut off around 4:00 AM. Is that right??? How do people smoke overnight without having to get up at some crazy hour -- even if I had the "will," the adult beverages consumed during the preparation phase of the job all but eliminate the "way."

Anyone out there have any suggestions? Am I missing something obvious? Why would they build a 4 hour max time into a device that will almost invariably be called on to perform for far longer periods of time?

PS: I'll get up early if I have to; can't wait to try that pulled pork!

gatormike,

I do not have the DBS, but I do not believe the limit is four hours. I recall it being closer to nine hours   ???

No, you can get 9 hours 40 minutes.  Push Set Oven temp and then press the up arrow until the max time is reached.
Smoke On.

GatorMike

You can also set the time on the smoke side of the generator as well similar to how Gizmo was refering to.

Oops, disregard question. You are all right, it DOES go for over 9 hours. It defaults to 4 hours (which is fine) but when I went to adjust it upwards initially  nothing happened. Guess I just didn't push hard enough. Live and learn!

Sorry for the dumb question. Feel free to delete this thread. :-[

gatormike,

Not a problem. We figure it was a test to see which members were drinking too much tonight to give the right answer.   :D
