Jeez Pensrock--I was cheering for all I was worth for Sid and the boys but like I said the last time we talked about the Penguins--the Joe is a tough place to win in this year. Modano said after they lost the series to the Wings that this is the best team he has ever played against, and he's been around the block a time or two.
Go Pens Go

It's easy T2, go Detroit
Domenick
That was a good game until the 3rd period. But, the team is young. I can't imagine how nervous they musta been. Overall, I was pleased with how they came out firing in the first.....they just failed to keep that going. If the Pens can somehow find a way to win Game 2, it's a brand new series. Playing in Pittsburgh this year hasn't been a cakewalk for anyone in the playoffs this year.
Yea, I think nerves had some to do with it but they just did not play as intense as they should have. Detroit was doing all the hitting and the Pens made some really bad plays that Detroit jumped on. Detroit has a great team no doubt about it and they have been to the playoffs before that has to help. We'll see Monday if they learned anything, if not it may be a short series. If the youngsters come out and start knocking the Wings down and make them keep getting back up, the older guys will tire out faster than the kids. It was only one game hopefully things will change on game two.
Well whatever the outcome, it's unbelievable hockey. The best 4 or 5 players currently playing the game are on the ice when those 2 teams meet--it's great stuff.

I just can't believe that I have to watch Hal Gill playing in the freakin' Stanley Cup.
It's more painful than imagining somebody boiling a tender little Walleye.
HAL GILL for crying out loud!!!
Die Hard (is there any other) Leafs fan.
Seeing Gill there is as bad as us Canuckleheads watching Ruutu in there. Does...not...compute.

Hey LQ click on this tag, download on your ipod and hit repeat, put the buds in and go to bed and you'll wake up in the morning a hockey fan! :D

Well if they do not start playing hockey and start hitting the series will be a short one. I'm impressed with the puck possession and handling by the wings. Man once they get the puck they just do not give it up.
I know the pens are playing bad right now but this is getting embarrassing. Come on guys..... get out there and kick some a$$!
Well, game 3 was definitely a tad better. I know I'm a little biased here but that was the best game of the series as far as hockey playing on both sides of the ice.
You're right, Pens. You can tell the Wings are the better team.....crisper passes, better pressure and more vision on the ice. However, I think the Pens were intimidated by them (at least that's the way it seemed to me) the first two games. They drew some strength from the home crowd last night and now look like a team competing for the Stanley Cup.
Damn--I missed the game as I was helping out at a track meet. Looking forward to the next game, Saturday?

A sad hockey note: RIP Canuck defenceman Luc Bourdon......Killed today in a motorcycle accident.

Yep, Saturday night at 8 pm on NBC. I'll be glued to the set wearing my Mario Lemieux jersey and drinking some IC Light!

You're right Mike......Sad day indeed, as is every day when a young person with a bright future is taken prematurely.
I echo your feelings as to the early passing of the Canuck Luc Bourdon. It's always sad to someone so young pass away. A simular thing almost happened to the Steelers when Rothlisburger crashed his motorcycle. He was very lucky indeed, I guess you just never know when it's your time.
pensrock,
I watched the game, rooted for your pens - it didn't seem to help...
Is it all over but the cryin' ?
Yes,
Gordie Howe
FlbentRider, They may win one more but for the Pens to come back now is asking a lot. It's clear to me that the Wings are the best team in hockey this year. The Pens have a real good team but just cannot match up with the Wings puck handeling. Also Osgood has been terrific, he made a lot of big time saves this series. What impresses me the most about the Wings is how easily they get the puck across the blue line, both on offence and defence. I think if the Pens are going to win one more they have to stop the way the Wings get out of their own end of the ice and also how easily they get into the Pens end of the ice.
I'm afraid that you're spot on Pensrock. They have clearly been the better team. I think given a little more time, the Pens will be there as well. I knew this series was over when the Pens had the 5 on 3 and couldn't find the back of the net. It surely isn't over, but the fat chick is definitely warming up the vocal chords. :( :'(
Smoking Duck,
Well Elvis has not quite left the building but he's near the exit.
Scratch my back with a hacksaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an incredible game!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well they pulled out another one, Pens! Did you stay up to watch it? Triple OT, holy smokes!

"Scratch my back with a hacksaw" Holy Crap Giggles...and I thought we were odd...NOT SO MUCH...!! :)
Now they are playing like they want to win! Great game, one down two to go. The Igloo will be rockin Wed. night.

LOL, LQ. That's a saying coined by the long time Pens announcer Mike Lange. I shamelessly borrowed it from him.
I watched the entire game last night. I don't mind telling you I was so nervous throughout the game that if I had swallowed a quarter, I could have given you back 2 dimes and a nickel! :o
Awesome game! The wife's a hockey fan and she didn't get home from work until the end of the third period, she then got to see almost a whole game staying up and watching the overtimes. I agree with other posters that said it looks like the Wngs are the more polished team, but the Penguins definately have heart. They are just playing grind it out hockey and they are scoring when they need to. What a great game! Go Penguins!!!!
You Hockey fans would be proud of me (kinda). I flipped over to the news and the game was on instead, so I watched the last 16+ minutes of the first overtime. Would have watched until the end, but I needed my sleep.
I gotta admit, it was very interesting and looked like both teams were really gettin' after it. All I know about Hockey, I learned by watching the Mighty Ducks movies, so if I'm going to follow it more next season (maybe even through the end of this series), I'll need to be more familiar with the rules and stuff.
Welcome to the great world of hockey, TT. It is a great sport; however, to truly appreciate it, you need to go to a game live. I've been to every major sporting event (ok, so I haven't been to a race) and there is no comparison of the frenzy of the fans between hockey and the rest of the sports.
If you need any proof that the hockey players are the toughest of all athletes, I direct you to Ryan Malone who took a full slapshot to the face, went into the locker room and was back for the next period. That shot hurt me and I was only watching in HD.
This series is going 7 and in game 7, anything can happen. Heck, if Malkin ever decides to play this series, the Pens just might shock the hockey world and win it all. Then a scream will be heard from coast to coast and it will have originated from Elkhart, Indiana!
I guess I'm a Canadian at heart..........I love hockey!
He's right Tiny, once you have seen a hockey game in person it changes everything. I was not much of a fan till several of us from the fire dept. decided to go to a few games years ago, now I love it! It did help some to have someone there to explain the penelties and what was going on. Once I started to understand the game... there nothing like it.
Smoking Duck, I agree, if Malkin starts playing like he is capable of, I think this series would be a lot different. The wings are a great team but I think the Pens are starting to figure them out now. I'm not sure how well Gonchar is going to be. I know he'll play but I hope he is 100%. They need to play the next two games like they did the first two periods last night, if they do, they will have a great chance of winning. But you can never underestimate the Wings. I saw LQ's reaction to the hacksaw comment so I listed some of the others saying below. I do have wav files but do not know how to post them.
LQ, below is a list of what I call Lange-isms.
Look out Loretta!
Heeeeeee shoots and scores!
Let's go hunt moose on a Harley!
Elvis has just left the building.
It's a hockey night in Pittsburgh!
Ah, scratch my back with a hacksaw!
Oh, How much fried chicken can you eat!
Oh, great balls of fire!
Michael, Michael, Motorcycle!
You ain't nothin' but a Hound Dog
Get in the fast lane Grandma, the Bingo Game is about to roll!
Buy Sam a drink and get his Dog one too!
Book um Dano!
Oh, she wants to sell my monkey!
Ah, call Arnold Slick from Turtle Crick!
Do not ask me what they all mean but you got to hear him when he's the announcer and using the sayings.
There's probably more but this is a pretty complete list.
The Igloo is going to be rockin tomorrow night, man how I would love to be there!

Those are great, Pensrock!
My Mom has been to every home playoff game this year......she was never into sports until she had two sons who played all the time....now she can't get enough of any Pittsburgh team.
Thanks for the heads up Pens...just in case somebody wants to sell a monkey...or scatch their back (like Giggles) with a hacksaw!!! :) I'll be sure not to fall for it!!! :) Monkey? A little monkey? Sure I'll buy it....:) :) :)
LQ, I wish I knew how to post the wav files on here so you could actually hear them. photobucket and flicker will only allow picture and video files to be uploaded. Well maybe someone will let me know and I can upload them for all to listen to. ???
No worries Pens...no need to...hell the Lakers had Chicke Hern (not that we follow them...what-so-ever) but I get the drift!!!
Go little Tuxedos birds...:)
Where's Sparky at after that bold prediction he made about it being over? I think we may have found the one and only thing he's not good at: hockey prognostication ;)
Come to the good side, Sparky, there's plenty of room on this bandwagon ;D
QuoteI direct you to Ryan Malone who took a full slapshot to the face, went into the locker room and was back for the next period. That shot hurt me and I was only watching in HD.
Couldn't agree more, SDuck. If a person wanted to understand a little about hockey, especially the Stanley Cup playoffs all you need to do is take a picture of Malone's face sitting on the bench after he came back from the dressing room after taking that shot. Did you see him drop to block another one ??!! That's old school courage boys. Good to see. The other guy that really impresses me on the Pens is Gary Roberts. I watched him hoist the Cup with the Calgary Flames in 1989 when half of the Pens hadn't hit kindergarten yet!!! I don't know how old he is now but he's still going strong and inspiring the kids on the team. I wonder what Elvis (Gordie Howe) thinks about him as he sits and watches in the Joe. Gordie played til his 50's....
T2
Gary Roberts is 42 and still playing well. I think the kids on the team look up to him, which can only be a good thing.
GO PENS.Even though i skate with brett lebda from detroit when off season is here .Maybe if they win he will bring the cup to the rink for us .. :o ;D
Sorry guys...watched the game...was a good series though...very entertaining (if that helps)?
QuoteSorry guys...watched the game
You watched the game!!?? LQ you didn't go take my advice and listen to Stompin' Tom's The Hockey Song all night did you!? You're a fan!!
T2
Well the Pens played well but it was obvious from the start that the Wings were just the better club. Congrats to the Wings they played a great series. I'm hoping the Pens can keep the core of the team together, with the playoff experience they gained this year they could be back in it again next year.
Go Pens!
Once Malkin and some of the other youngsters have time to absorb some of what they just went through, the Pens will be a playoff force. Time to go fishin!
T2
T2
I was thinking about how poorly Malkin played during the last series, something just does not seem right there. I know he took a couple really hard hits vs philly, I'm betting he was playing hurt and the team was told to keep it hush, hush. There were times it looked like he was just strolling back up ice instead of skating fast like he can. Well maybe we'll here more a little later after things settle down some.
I agree..... lets go fishin!!!!
I have only been out for trout several times this year, I do manage to catch 4-8 each time I go out, catch and release. I want to get out on the lake a few times for crappie, bass and walleye and a friend has a bigger boat he takes to Lake Ontario for salmon and steelhead, I hope to get to go with him once this year. I've never had the chance to fish in the Great Lakes or the oceans but I hoping for a chance someday.

I remain, drinking at a distance, with my friends Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio and Frank Mahovlich.......
For the record, I grew up in Detroit and watched (and played as a youth) hockey when no one wore helmets except the goalie...
Arcs_n_Sparks
Nah...T2...not a hockey fan so much...just rootin for you and Giggles and Pens...hell...I'm from hot weather sports...like football, basketball..."baseball"...not too much anymore...long story...but...I know peeps from Detroit too...it's all about the game...
I'm just happy the Pens made a go of it......the Wings were the better team but the Pens played with a lot of heart. They got a ton of experience this year. Don't think they'll be able to keep Hossa this coming year but they should be able to keep the core together and Fleury gained a lifetime of experience this year. The Pens will be contenders for many years if they can keep them together.
Sparky, my brother (also a diehard Pens fan) is a cop just outside of Detroit. He was handing out tickets left and right to anyone who had a Red Wings bumper sticker ;D ;D. I also used to live in Kalamazoo, so I'm very familiar with the Wings craze in Michigan.
SD
Pens--I used to be an avid trout fisherman, grew up fishing for them with my dad, but I seem to be focused on salt water fishing these days. 3 more weeks of work and then I'm off for 6 or 7 weeks--look out salmon. I've tried for halibut a few times this spring but I'm still on the learning curve for those babies. I'm kind of enjoying the challenge of fishing for a different species. If you ever come out here to the island I'll take you out to catch some salmon. (That's if that Alaskan salmon vacumn, AKA Kummok, doesn't catch them all before they get down here to BC! :D)
T2
T2, I have never had the chance to fish in the ocean but it sure looks like fun on TV. This morning I went to a small local lake before it got so damm stinkin hot out, yes LQ... it was in the 90's today! All I caught was a couple small largemouths. How do you manage to get six to seven weeks off to go fishing? ??? I'm lucky to get to go once in a while on the weekend. :(
Hot weather and trout fishing do not go well together and it is supposed to be super hot and muggy most of next week. (Super Hot = 85 degrees and above.)
HOLY COW...85 degrees...you don't mean it...you poor...poor fella...just hydrate with beer...doesn't seem so hot then!!! :)
Yea 85 that sounds rough....we were 100+ for like 5 days last week finally cooled off into the 90's now with blowing dust! I could go for 85! :)

Hey, it got to 90 the last couple days! That's brutal! Too hot to even fish! :(
Besides I always hear that the heat in the southweast is a dry heat and it is more comfortable then the humid heat we get. ???
Actually I do not care where you live anything above 80 is too hot in my book. Maybe they can make room further north for a poor non-heat tolerant guy from PA? :)
I'm with you, Pens. My extra layer of fat (I call it my survival layer) suits me better when it's chillier. In this heat, I start sweating like a tax cheat in an IRS office! I could take 60F all year round and be extremely happy. Problem is, I'm not sure where that place is :'(
Giggles...you would love where Giz and WCK live....get's a leetle warm in the summer...but...no snow....not so much rain...you'd be a wet, sweaty... puppy out here in "hell". :)
WTS...where he lives is worse...he's got 100 and wet...we have 107 and dry...thank the Lord for the guy that invented "a pool"!!! :)
NO SNOW! Say it isn't so.
I love snow, but only for hunting season then it can melt.
Got to have a noticable seasons change.
I think I would rather shovel snow than cut grass.
But its hard to golf in the snow. ;D
Amen to that brother.
I don't mind the snow all that much. I hate the really frigid cold though. Heck when I was living in North Dakota and it was -60F, you might as well forget trying to pee outside. Even if you could (at that temp, it's like trying to find a button in a fur coat), you were too afraid it would freeze before it would hit the ground. I'd much rather be cutting grass than shovelling snow....I live right across the street from a golf course. I always find a couple shag balls when I cut the grass. I calll that a bonus ;D
