Title: Race Fan Memorial
Post by: Gizmo on May 31, 2008, 08:34:05 PM
Just received news this morning that my cousin (my mother's nephew) was killed last night at Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge Iowa.  He was a member of a pit crew and a wheel broke off one of the race cars and hit him in the chest, killing him.

He was 10 years older than I so I didn't know him as well as my brother.  My brother use to hang out at their house all the time.  Actually he hung out at their shop and worked on their cars all the time.

RIP Larry.

No Problem.
I suspect Larry tragedy has his hit his family quite hard but I would also venture to say that Larry left the earth doing what he loved most (other than family), working the race track.  In his younger days, he and his brother use to build 'em and race 'em.

Sorry for the bad news Gizmo. I am sure it is hard on the family but as you said he was doing something that he loved.  It sounds like he went quick which is all I ask of life. What a freak accident though.

Sorry for your loss Giz. My younger brother used to love racing motorcycles and was in a tragic accident on his why home from a race, that cost him his life.  This was many years ago (thirty) I was 19 and he was 18, but the one thing that helped was knowing he went doing the one thing he loved the most. I know how difficult it is for the family, all I can say is to try to remember the good times.

Thanks everyone for you prayers and sentiments.

My mom stopped by today.  She was headed up to my brother's for a flight out Tuesday for the funeral.  Mom called the family yesterday and her sister (Larry's Mom) wasn't able to talk.  She took it pretty hard.  For a lady in her 90s, she is still a pretty tough cookie.
