The same thing in my world. 12 volt systems are usually DC. I've never seen 12 volts AC.

The 12 VDC is explicit; telling you what expect. 12 volts alone is more vague. Low voltage A.C. around the house is found in doorbell and home thermostat systems, although those are typically higher.
