Title: Operator Error
Post by: rcger on July 19, 2008, 04:53:43 PM
Hopefully this will prevent others from feeling like a TOTAL IDIOT...

I'm smoking a brisket.  I have the tower set for 230 degrees (I'll finish it in the oven after 4 hours of smoke).  Anyway, I have my Maverick in the tower to monitor the tower temp.  I'm not concerned about the meat temp right now.  My Maverick would get to about 205 and then the temp starts dropping.  I'd go out and fiddle with the cords and the process would repeat...Maverick to 205 and it drops from there.

I'm about ready to post on the forum for some quick help.  After all, this is the smartest group of people I've ever encountered.  I'm outside and I noticed the digital readout on the tower shows 229 degrees.  What a moron I am.  The tower was behaving EXACTLY as it should.  When it hits 203, it would shut down.

Remember, the actual tower temp will actually be somewhat HIGHER than what the Maverick indicates.

Someone shoot me and put me out of my misery!!!   ;)
