Title: I am a WIMP
Post by: car54 on July 26, 2008, 08:22:24 AM
I have hundreds of allergy injections ,many epidural shots, 4 surgeries, broken bones, cracked ribs, cuts that required stitches, had my thumb reattached after cutting it off, and can skillfully dig out some major splinters.

Today I had to inject myself with a blood thinner. The needle was about a 1/2 inch long and very skinny. It took me an hour to do it. I was pacing the floor talking to myself, using imagery and logic. Wow, it was hard to do. Finally I did and and it really did not hurt. I just hope my PM injection goes easier. At least I have some experience now.

Throw me in the wimp boat as well.  Had to have a blood test around a year ago, and I had to sit on the bed, squeeze the thingy that makes the veins come around, then after the draw was done I was a little lightheaded for a few minutes.

When I had Dad up in the ER a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't even watch them give HIM a shot.

It does't bother me to get a shot or have blood drawn , but I don't know if I could bring myself to give my own.  Guess that would put me in the wuss catagory too.

I used to have a problem with self-injections, but after watching the Mrs. give herself one every day for 8 months (pregnancy), I got over it.

Don't think about it. Just do it.

No problem here to inject myself. Being diabetic I take two to three shots a days not counting three finger stabs each day. Actually I think the finger thing hurts more than the shots. Most of the time when giving myself insulin I do not even feel it, but every once in a while........ ouchy!  ;D

Never have had to inject myself, I think I could pull that off, have pulled a few of my own teeth....which was quite interesting, the wife thought I was crazy!  Hang in there Brad, you'll get the hand of it!

I just gave myself my 2nd injection. It still took 1 hour. 59 minutes to drink 2 glasses of wine and 1 minute for the injection (painless).
I have it down now. My next injection is at 6:00 AM. I have to get up at 5:00 to start with the wine.

You could speed up the process by drinking faster...  :D

I always had a thing with needles also......

But my 13 year old cat developed diabetes which required a shot in the morning and evening. I got good at it and saw the remarkable improvement in her life by doing this. She was able to enjoy two extra years on her life that would not have been possible without the insulin shots.

but, if I require a needle for a blood test or whatever.......I still am squeemish   :D

It's been said, but I hate needles too. I'd face most anything before a loaded syringe.  LQ jumped in on me when I was checking my spelling.

Be that as it may: Hang in there, brother.  And reward yourself for facing your fears.  Having delivered two loads, needle-wise, I think you deserve a reward.

Given that the juice is health related, I'd say devote two hours at the poker table (or a round at the golf course).

Best to you on all health issues.
