Title: Cooking bacon- what method
Post by: HCT on August 04, 2008, 04:58:01 AM
When you finally get to the stage of cooking your bacon which method do you use?
Fry it
Bake it
Nuke it

I usually try to bake it off a 400 but alot of times I'm just too lazy to go that way and just throw it in the fry pan.

If it is a lot of bacon, I will bake it, sometimes adding cracked pepper, or other seasonings, at times maybe sprinkle with brown sugar or glaze with maple syrup.

Other then that I pan fry, or with home cured bacon saute it to prevent it from burning (I like a lot of sugar in my cure).

Pan Fry, at a lower temp than the commercial bacon due to the sugar content.

I haven't baked it, but I would if I had a lot to do.

Bake...every time...I did find when you make your own...takes a little longer on the bake at a slightly lower temp...like 375. I've never considered the volume....more the cut (meaning how thick)...and as FL pointed out the sugar content. But I don't sugar mine...just cure and smoke. Just a basic MTQ cure. Hickory smoke. No biggie.
