Title: update improved Bradley
Post by: car54 on December 12, 2004, 08:28:28 PM
I just finished 17 pounds of pork butt with my improved Bradley(extra heat source) hook up to the power raptor.

It worked great. The Bradly was preheated to 275 degrees, the pork was 50 degrees and it dropped to around 100 degrees when loaded. With the additional heater it took about 90 minutes to reach the smoke temperature. The weather was 24 with the wind chill and very windy.

Car five four!

Tell us more about your additional heat source. I am really looking at a the guru/raptor set up but just am not confident enough that I want to spend the money! Tell us more, please! Thanks!

Very interesting.  I too have felt the heater in the Bradley just wasn't strong enough.  Although when I really think about it it's cooked all the food I've put in it well enough.  But if you could show how you hooked the new heater into the guru/PR I'd be intersted.

Sure looks cool though.

The heater is wired in a rheostat junction box that you can see on the lower right side of the Bradley. There is a power cord coming out of the rheostat box that can be hooked up to the power raptor. I had to drill through the Bradley for the wires and then I put high temperature silicone on both sides of the hole to seal it.

Hi there: It's now Sep. 21, 2009 and I'm wondering how your Bradley smoker with the added heat source has worked out. Have you made any other modifications to your set-up?
Thanks

NorthernVintage,
Welcome to the forum.  Tell us all about yourself.  From where do you hail?  What model Bradley do you have?  What type of modifications if any have you made to your Bradley?  What do you like to smoke in the Bradley?  We really like to get to know new members of the forum so tell us all about yourself.  How long have you owned a Bradley?

Northernvintage,

Wow it has been nearly 5 years since I have posted that. I do not regret putting in the extra heater. Other Bradley owners have done there own versions of it. Here is a link for more BTU,s developed by Walleye. This is the way that I would go if I would do it again because it uses Bradley parts. I have also added a circulation fan and made a PID. The PID to me is a great improvement for the Bradley. You can buy a PID that is premade. I forgot the name of the place but I am sure that some Bradley member will post a reply.

No issues with the added heat source, after that length of time? This strikes me as a solid upgrade and I appreciate your info.
