Olds,

On one unit there is no control except for a removable wire top which reflects some of the heat back towards the food. I think that it is rated at 16,000 btu's. The Costco unit has a high, low switch. At high it is 18,000 btu and I do not know what it is in the low position.

Olds,

I have the Costco unit which has the high, low switch.  Like Brad said at high it is 18,000 btu.  I just checked the charbroil site and low is 14,000 btu.  I haven't put a thermometer in to check the temp while cooking so I don't know what temps it is getting to.

Well I just went and got a unit. It does not have a high or a low. It has a knob that allows you to adjust the flame hight. Just like on a gas stove. It is 18,000 btu. I have no idea nor does the information supplied tell you about heat settings.

We going to brine a large chicken tonight and try out the unit tomorrow.
