Do you primarily use the traeger as a grill when doing that or more as a smoker? I figured grill but thought I'd ask. I can almost taste it through the screen!

I use the traeger for alot of the bbq. My weber is sitting collecting dust.....or snow ;D

No, I believe its long rod with the hook on the end (hence pigtail) for moving pieces of meat around that are to large for tongs!

I try not to use any tools that pierce the meat and cause the juices to run out. One of the reasons I hate to use a meat thermometer on a good steak. A lot of places use the Pigtails though. Probably not that big of an issue on the thin cuts.
