Title: Finally!
Post by: Smokey-WV on December 27, 2004, 04:25:01 PM
Santa was good to me this year.  [:)]  My wife got me a SBS!  I just can't wait to use it. I plan on a batch of ribs and something else I'm just not sure yet.

I've been eyeing the BSers up for years now but never got around to buying one.  Well the Cabelas store near us had one fantastic deal before Christmas so I dropped the hint to my wife.  [:D] And sure enough I'm now able to smoke!

Just thought I'd share my Christmas story with you all as my introduction.

So who has a good rib recipe anyways?

Chris

Welcome, Chris!  Not only did you get a great smoker, but you have found the most helpful bunch of folks you can imagine here at the Forum.  I have learned a ton in the past two weeks, and it made my first efforts with the BS much easier and better than trying to go it alone.

I also received a BS from my wife for Christmas (it arrived a few days before since she wanted me to use it for Christmas dinner), and we've already done salmon, steelhead trout, turkey, and cheese on it with very good-to-outstanding results.  The "very goods" were basically the result of not enough smoke flavor, which is easily fixed by smoking a bit longer the next time.

There are lots of recipes on the Forum for you to peruse.  If you can't locate a recipe for something you want to smoke, just ask!

BTW, check out the T-shirt methods that Olds uses--tried it on a turkey breast and it was fantastic!

Thanks guys!

Just reading the forums today I have learned more than I could have imagined.  The amount of knowledge on here is simply amazing.

I already have the BBQGuru Raptor in my sights and I'm going to place an order on chezbubba for some Hickory pucks and his Bubba pucks.

I did find this on Ebay if anyone might be interested.

This is going to be a great combination for my home brews.  [:D]

That's defiantly on the "must have" list.  [:D]

I'd really like to get my hands on a rib rack too but I haven't found any yet.  Might have to see if anyone out there can come up with something.  [;)]

Hehe Olds, what's the Dow tag stand for?  I've ran across a few Dow tags in my online gamming experiences.  [8D]

Good question about the Dow tag. I want to answer with no knowledge whatsoever before Dow does. Dow is  the phonetical spelling of Tao, as in Tao and the Art of Smoking! "If you can snatch the t-shirt from my hand, grasshopper, then you too may smoke a ham worthy of the Emporer!" Is it the silly season, or what? [:D]

Smokey-WV what games?

This is my gaming sig-pic.

We are an online gaming community... A multi-gameing-community. As you can see by our opening logo, below, some do Planet Side, Battle Zone, Mechwarrior 4, Battle Field 1942 Ghost Recon, and other games.

While we have a web-site it is not used much anylonger as we all use one Voicing program or another. Which is good and bad. For example of the bad is I never talk with the members who do Planet Side. A good example of why the boards are not use much is tonight at 8 pm. I will host what is called Tues Nite Laugh Night. After talking via a voice program for 4-6 hours with those in the game, plus some of us MSN during the week then posting becomes kind of redundant.  As I said this is good and it is bad.

There is another Dogs of War we know of out of England. However, their tags are a little different:

DoW-Oldman
DOW_XXXXXX

I game Ghost Recon, generally as a Sniper...also some as an Assualt person. Never as a Rifleman and I'm only a Demo Expert when needed. (Yuck I hate to Demo as most of the kits stink [xx(] )

Not that it is important but I do all of the art work for the site.

I knew that's where I remembered that tag.  BF1942 hehe

I started off playing UT years ago and kind of progressed along when something new came out I'd have to give it a shot.  Few of my friends started Oxygen - (o2) years ago and we have stuck together ever since.  Great way to keep in touch with everyone and have a good time doing so.  I've played just about everything, Tac Ops, BF 1942, BF Vietnam, Call of Duty, Counter Strike, SWG and a few others mixed in there.  Harder to find time now that we have a child but I still enjoy logging on every once awhile and fraggin all the kids. ;)

I know all about the voice programs, we use Roger Wilco and ever since than the boards kind of become useless.  I'd much rather talk than type anyways.

Nice art work BTW.

Chris

Chris,

 <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"> I knew that's where I remembered that tag. BF1942 hehe
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">Well it would have been DoW-Spike, Prez, Unknown, Olds... Also you might have seen some KOV and »ÂRF«... we all came out of the same group a few years back....... we kind of dropped that game.

However, you are more that welcome to join us in GR. It is a small group now as the game is older....waiting on GR2... It is cheap enough now for the Gold Pack.  I run an Ventrilo server for voicing. If you get the Gold Pack you will also need the mods I run on my server..not a big deal as my gaming site host those downloads. My IP is static so the voice server is up almost 24/7.

I tried out UT 4000 but frankly I'm too old/ slow. [B)] Goes with the age.

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">Thanks...most never know the hours it takes to create a balance that works... again thank you!

Cya soon in a game I hope.

My wife got me a Bradley smoker for Christmas.  I went ahead and broke in for 2-3 hours, but haven't smoked anything in it yet.  The Bradley is my fourth smoker, the others are wood, electric and gas. So, I do have experience with smoking. (my wife says I will smoke anything given the chance)  I am thinking of trying some meatballs tonight, just to get a feel for the smoker. (yes, meatballs)  The question I have is that I have seen references to using a "t-shirt" to wrap items while smoking.  What are the benefits of using the t-shirt and Is it as simple as wrapping stuff in a t-shirt or Is there special technique to it.
