Most of you know that I'm pretty rough on Mrs. Duck, so I thought I'd let her tell the story of how we met........

We are goin' to have to throw you a two hundred foot ladder to get outta the hole your diggin'.
:D :D ;D
Mike
Buddy, I have dug a hole so far down, I think I'm starting to come up the other side ;D
Is it getting obvious that I'm bored outta my skull by not working? ;) ;D
Hang in there SD.
Hang in there Duck.
I'm doing okay, guys. Just bored numbless most days. There is only so many things you can do around the house. I do have to go to the docs today, though. Think I might have diabetes. I pee about 14 times a day and there are numerous times I get really light-headed. Happened twice when I fell down and have a bigtime family history of it. So, we'll see.
As far as the wife and I go, she's known me long enough that I like to play with her about all sorts of things. She just usually shakes her head at me but it's all good.

That is the only thing that counts between a man and a woman.
Amen, Olds! She tolerates me but it works very well between us.

I agree with Olds... That's all that matters! ;)
Good luck with your Doc visit. Even if you do in fact have diabetes it's best to know so you can look after it and keep things in check.
Hopefully it all works out SD. We are all thinking about ya! ;)

Going to the bathroom all the time and always being thirsty are two big signs of high blood sugar. I have been diabetic for about eight years now. Thats how I found out I had it. I mentioned to my dad about running to the bathroom and always drinking water and I used his meter to test myself. Next day I was at the doctors. (BTW, both my dad and grandad have/had diabetes.) I'm not sure about the light-headed feeling. When I get light-headed or feeling shakey it is normally because my blood pressure is too low or my blood sugar is real low. I'm sure the doc will get it figured out for you.
Good luck,

I think toleration is a noun that explains how most women put up with us pretend to be grownups. But then again, that same "most" probably came into the transaction knowing what to expect. There's that old joke: a man comes into a relationship expecting that a woman won't change and a woman comes into a relationship expecting that the man will change.
Hope all works out on the health front, Duck. BTW that Italian Grill book is pretty good. Can't wait to try some of the recipes.
Take care.
Hope your doctor's visit went well.
Well, they made me pee and took lots of blood. My grandmother and uncle both died from complications of diabetes. When I was a kid, I suffered from hypoglycemia (If you can call it suffering; I was allowed all the ice pops and lollipops that I wanted ;D). The doc said that the light-headedness probably comes from hypoglycemia but that it could be a precursor for diabetes. I should know better tomorrow or the next day but it's all good still. Walking on this side of the grass versus the other seems to make everything else seem okay. Doc did say he wanted me to lose some weight (I got measured today at 6'2" and 248.8 pounds which I think is perfect if I was still playing ball; unfortunately, that stopped a long time ago). He wants me to work out more and start drinking diet pop. I HATE DIET POP! He didn't say anything about not eating smoked foods, though, so I'm good to go there ;) :D
Hope it all works out for you. Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar, I never heard of it turning into diabetes which is hyperglycemia or high bloodsugar. But I'm sure he knows much more about it than I do. He probably checked your A1C which gives an average sugar reading over the past couple months. I take several shots/per day now. I started just with oral meds but now it is progressing and the oral meds are not enough anymore. You may be able to control yours with just diet, some people can do that.
Good luck,
pens
Thanks Pens. My problem is that I only eat one meal a day. He said something about my blood sugar being way out of whack or something. Yea, he did say he was going to check the A1C. That's one thing I did remember. I guess if you look at me, I'm the poster boy for what's known as the metabolic syndrome which is the condition right before diabetes, I guess. I don't really understand it all but you are right. Some folks have the ability to control their diabetes with diet alone. Sorry to hear yours isn't controlled by the oral meds. The shots must really be a pain in the arse. Like I said, the test results should be back tomorrow or the next day. I'm not really worried about it; whatever happens, will happen. Did I mention I really HATE diet pop?
SD
I've been drinking diet pop for probably 10-15 years so now regular pop tastes terrible. The last few years I cut way back on pop and now drink green tea or water. Except when adult beverages are around! ;D
I know I'm not supposed to drink them, but I do anyway! Just not as much as I used to. :'(

I've been hypoglycemic for over 18 years now. Got diabetes on both sides of the family and everyone was hypoglycemic before transitioning into diabetes. Dr. said their pancreas just over worked and now doesn't work for them.
If your doctor told you to drink diet soda, I'd reconsider and find other alternatives.

Pensrock - GOOD FOR YOU on cutting back
Several family members and friends used to be big time diet soda drinkers and there are other health problems associated with consuming that stuff. BTW, ever see one of the Mentos & Diet Coke videos on the internet? :D :D :D
Don't know about everyone else, but I've noticed (at least for me) 5 distinct stages that I transition through before I am in serious trouble with Blood Sugar Problems. When I hit stage 3, I've got 5-10 min to get some sugar into me before dropping.
SD - Best of luck and take care of yourself.

I started to drink diet soda several months back. Never though I'd get would ever get past the after taste but after about a week it isn't too bad. Made a huge difference in blood sugar levels. 32mg or more of carbohydrates for those regular sodas. Good thing about meet is -low in carbohydrates. :)
Recently I heard about aspartame artifical sweetner causing arthritus etc. Will have to start looking for something else or just stick to water. Of course the way science is going, pretty soon eating or drinking (anything) will cause you to die. Wait, out time is limited anyway.
Here is one of the articles that I found most facinating:

Hey Giggles....glad everything is ok with you and Ms. T. Take care my friend...stay healthy? Please. :)
The ONLY time I might drink a diet Coke is when mixed with Bacardi Light and a splash of lime.
I actually prefer that taste over rum and regular coke - strange, I know but occassionaly, its good
Good luck with the results SD, and i really hope a suitable job comes your way in the very near future (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s62/Gitster59/Good-Luck.gif)

Thanks, LS! I don't have diabetes yet but the doc said I'm borderline. Additionally, my cholesterol is pretty high (high trigs, high LDL, low HDL). Doc really wants me to cut down on sugar and start an exercise regimen. Wants me to start on some meds but I think I'm gonna try the diet and exercise method first. Now I gotta try and find some time to exercise...not sure where to fit it in to my hectic schedule ;D
Hopefully, a job is right around the corner, but I'm not holding my breath. Unemployment in Elkhart area is at 11% and there are more layoffs coming. But, I'm not giving up hope just yet......still got my family and my extended smoker family!

Same here, I can't stand the stuff with sugar in it anymore. Icky-sweet.
