Title: PLug and Play Temp Controller Question
Post by: Dex on December 15, 2008, 01:52:33 PM
I want my next project to be pulled pork, but I dont want to do it until I get a temp controller.

Auber makes the Bradley Smoker Controller for $117.50 and the Bradley Smoker Controller Programmable for $149.50

Has anyone had a chance to look at both units? All I am really after is keeping the box temp steady. Any feedback on the non programmable model? I dont want to buy the more expensive one if I dont really need it.

Dex, if you are not interested in doing sausage, you probaby don't need the programable one. The ability to ramp up the temp is pretty cool. Don't need it at all for a butt as long as you can monitor the meat temp.

Dex,

I bought the non-programmable one and then wished I had bought the programable one.   I emailed Suyi at Auber about a month ago and asked if it were possible to send my controller back & have it upgraded.  He said yes so I mailed the controller & a check to him and had it back in about a week.  So if you decide not to get the more expensive one you can always upgrade.  I can't remember what I paid to upgrade but it was fairly cheap.  Email Suyi & ask him what the price would be to upgrade in the future if you find you need the programmable one.  The customer service there is awesome,  I think I have always received return emails in less than an hour from sending and twice on holidays (memorial day & veterans day).  I had problems with my first one and he called & talked with me over Memorial day weekend.

That's good to know Deb, My friend was having some remorse about the standard one when he dropped by when I was unloading a cabinet full of sausage. I will relay the info. Thanks

SS,  I'll try to find the old plug n play threads & add it.  I meant to when i did it and forgot.  I also bought the new cabinet probe for it but haven't used it yet.

Well I dont think I will be doing sausage at all. I just want something to keep the box temp steady. The slide thermostat is tough to keep on the dot.

So with that said... I will be happy with the less expensive one?

I bought the programmable model and used it for the first time yesterday for a batch of Kummok's salmon. Slight learning curve programming it but once you get it, it is very easy and logical. Actually comes pre-programmed for the three step process used in Kummok's recipe! I was very happy with it. I have an OBS and the programmable PID is the best investment I can think of for that model!

Cheers
