Title: Doo Wop Yule Pop night
Post by: KyNola on December 20, 2008, 01:31:49 PM
Time to fess up, I'm 56 years old.  Last night my wife and I went to a Doo Wop Yule Pop concert.  For you young guys, press the delete button but for the old guys here was the line up.  The Magnificients "Up on a Mountain", The Original Spaniels "Good Night Sweetheart", Kathy Young "A Thousand Stars", The Reflections "Just Like Romeo and Juliet" and The Contours "Do You Love Me" and "First I look At The Purse".  They all mixed in some really cool Doo Wop versions of Xmas music.  If you have seen the PBS specials of the Doo Wop concerts, this was a down size version but it was so cool and we had so much fun.  Most of the performers were 60 and much above and they were having so much fun.

Made my holiday season!

Duck,
If you have to ask what Doo Wop is, there's no point in answering. ;) :D

Sounds great Ky. Sometimes on sunday afternoon Time-Life has a infomercial for the 50-60's collection. I watch the whole thing, what memories, just nice innocent memories from an innocent time.
Compared to now that is. :P

Doo-Wop was a little before my time as well,  but we have a goup here in west TN that keeps it alive and well.   The are called " The Fabulous Delacardos",  and they are absolutely some of the best in the business.

I have all of their CD's,  and wish they would make more!

The group's members consist of a radio/tv talk show host... (those of you on charter cable systems in TN may have seen his TV show... Area Code 731)
a Juvenile Court Judge,  a consignment store owner,  an investment counselor,  and a couple of retirees.

They play alot of special events around the area and I go every chance I get.

There used to be a great group called Sha Na Na that covered all the oldies very well.  Sounds like that was a great concert KyNola.  Drive in burger joints with ladies on roller skates serving up the grub at Mel's and many others.  Roadsters covered with STP stickers and original greasers with a waterfall and DA.  Innocent times indeed.  I miss 'em an I'm a bit older than you are.
