Title: Prime New York Strip Dinner
Post by: Doctor Woody on January 19, 2009, 04:59:27 PM
Okay.  Nothing highly out of the ordinary.  Just a good ole steak dinner.  Had this last night and thought I would share the picture.

Cowgirl?  Do I have your approval???  I know you're out there.   :D   ;)

Prime new york strip with a dry rub of garlic powder, prime rib seasoning and black pepper.

Sweet potatoes cut into wedges and baked crispy.  The were dredged in EVOO and coated with garlic powder, onion powder, coriander powder and cayenne pepper.

Some creamy coleslaw.

Thanks.  It was cooked between medium rare and rare, just the way I like prime.  Cheaper cuts are cooked to true rare.

Thanks!  I guess it's time to go get some steak.  I have cut down on it nowadays, so I enjoy it even more when I have it.  Especially prime!

Ah yes.  Approval from "The" Cowgirl.  Now I can sleep well tonight.   :P   ;D

There's a little coleslaw left.  I better pack it in dry ice before I send it out...   :)

Saw that on a demo at a camera show here last month.  Guy giving the demo had all kinds of cool tricks.  He also has had some awesome subjects over the years including Marilyn Monroe.

Is your's a hand made effect or a prebuilt macro or plugin?

It was a simple hand made effect by selecting part of the edge, then creating a new "black" fill layer and reducing the opacity on the fill layer.  Then I did a black stroke to complete it.

Man, does that ever look good! Did you apply any smoke to it first, or just straight on to the grill. I like the way you cooked it as well, rare.

Anybody ever done a whole New York Strip?  I was eyeing one at Sam's the other day.  They were less money than the whole rib eye.

Funny you should mention it.  I almost bought one the other day.  I don't mind cutting my own steaks since I like em thick.  I have done this in the past and it works out quite well.  I just vac pac the ones I don't plan to eat right away.

I have to check out Sam's, generally in my area both are about the same price; and that averaged about $9.00/lb. I have smoke/roasted them whole and they come out excellent. New York Strip Roast also goes by the name of Top Loin Roast.

Yeh, that's what I'm talking about!  Thanks Habs.  Only have had two experiences with strip steaks.  Got second at a contest with one using walnut oil and garlic and cilantro for a "rub".  But then the next time they were very tough.  I just think one done up like a prime rib oughta be good.  I think they were either 5.99 or 6.99 last Friday at Sam's.  And I believe they were bone-in.  Still a $60 chunk of meat though!

The last time I smoked/roasted Top Loin I reduced the rosemary by 50% and increased the garlic. I liked that version better.
