Title: remote thermometers
Post by: car54 on March 08, 2009, 02:47:30 PM
Does any one know of any remote thermometers that actually are able to send their signal through more then 15 feet and 1 wall?

Thanks, Brad

I think everyone pretty much use the maverick...my smoker is inside the well house thats built of stucco and the remote sits on the window sill of my den...guessing about 20 feet away, and I don't have any problems unless the bats get low!

Brad

Have you tried the ET73 with the antenna mod?

My detached garage is about 60 feet from the house. Its got stucco on the exterior so of course it has stucco wire on it as well. I had a lot of problems loosing the signal. It would work outside the back door of the house but not in the house. Now that I have done the antenna mod it will receive signal in most areas inside the house.

Brad, the Lil Smoker modification Walleye speaks to is the only way to get it to go to full specification.  No luck on any other brand.  Sorry I gave up trying to find the link... Only issue on ET73 I have had is the crappy ON / Off Switch gets to where you need something pointy to turn it on and off...

Last year while in Florida, we picked up 5, yeah 5, Oregon Scientific model AW131... remote thermometers at Lowes for $9.99 each. Went back the next day and they were $36 each, bet somebody got #$@*. Been checking on the Web and they are identical to Weber' Audio Meat Thermometer model 6439, that sells at Home Depot for $89 Canadian. Mine's red, theirs is silver. Overall it's an excellent thermometer and has a range of about 75 to 80 feet. Has every kind of meat and doneness level, and it actually talks as well as beeps. Good thermometer, but maybe a little on the pricey side.
