Title: Should I be concerned?
Post by: FlashOfBlue on March 18, 2009, 03:52:47 PM
Hi folks,

Got my new smoker this past weekend and I am priming it this evening.  It's heating up well (yay) and it's smoking up (yay!!), but wondering.  Should I be concerned with a little smoke coming from the door seal?  Is this normal?  It's not a great quantity, but wondering how that will impact holding temperature.

Piece, out

Flashofblue,

Make sure that there are no kinks in the gasket. It should look flat. If there is a twist or kink  use a piece of tape to true it up and then close the door for a day or 2 and hopefully it will retain it's position. Do this when you are not using the smoker.

A slight amount of smoke coming from the door seal will not matter.

If it is under warranty call Bradley. They will replace it

I hope that helps, Brad

As Up In Smoke says it is worth checking it over....... give the seal a wipe with a damp cloth, make sure there are no obstructions and make sure the seal is sitting correctly and not coming loose anywhere.

However I have always had the odd wisp of smoke coming from the door seal and as long as it is no more than that I would not be concerned.

UIS makes a good point about the vent, if it is not open sufficiently smoke can back up and escape around the generator area and door. Also creates more moisture which is BAD!  ;) :D

I also have a small amount of smoke coming from the door seal, lower left corner near the generator. It's been like that almost since I have had it. As long as no smoke is backing out of the generator or where the generator is attached to the smoker there is nothing to worry about.
