Kummock,

I hope that you are safe in Homer with an active valcano erupting.
Keep us informed and you are in my prayers.

Cough! Cough! Hack! Spit! Everything's fine here in the cosmic-hamlet-by-the-sea.....Right now, just some Bradley smoke to finish up the Copper River Reds that didn't make it to the grill in the past year. At least that's all the air boogers around here so far!! :o  Ash plume went N-NE towards the Interior. We were blessed THIS time....snow's still white here! I DO have food/fuel/water/extra bisquette laid in for the long haul if we get inundated but I have that anyway JUST because of Obama's inevitable spending-spree-induced financial collapse!!   ::)

Glad to hear all is well Kummock, had a marvellous fishing programme here on this side of the pond shown within the last week which visited Homer. Can't remember which pub they showed but the fishing was good!  :D

Next stop on their Alaska tour was Wasilla........ Iceman country!

Just missed us too Kummok. Blew by us in Wasilla but hit Willow and Houston areas already. Also folks at the end of Knik are rporting ash. I'm keeping the trucks in the garage just in case though. Gotta get the batch of jerky done before the ash hits here.

We're about 60 miles east of Redoubt and the view is basically as Kummock said.  The ash plume went north and we haven't seen any sign that a volcano has erupted - OK by me!  The power went out for about 2 hours and that was a bit weird.  Maybe it was a power surge from Fred Meyer's cash registers as everyone went out and bought up a weeks worth of beer!

I hope it doesn't disrupt air travel.  My wife is in Oklahoma and is due to fly back to Alaska tomorrow.

Just made a trip up to your area As&8s...had to visit Lowes for the 1st time. Couldn't see across Cook Inlet at all due to stormy weather. Found out that the Peninsula wide power outage was due to an avalanche. Glad that HEA got it fixed faster this time...the least they can do for doubling our electric bill in Feb! ::)   Several airlines have cancelled flights and a few heading up from SEA turned around when they got the word. Have a cousin visiting from NorCal that's supposed to fly out Friday...we'll see.... fortunately he's a great cousin that loves to hunt!

I'd heard that the ash plume was heading for Houston, Iceman. Glad it missed you....that stuff sux!

For those that want to follow this event, go to: http://www.avo.alaska.edu/activity/Redoubt.php  for some timely and informative info/pics/graphics.

Glad everbody is OK, Kummok. I was in the Phillipines in '91 when Mount Pinatubo blew and had no idea what effects it would have. The ash seems harmless at first. The rain that followed was the deal breaker. Roofs collapsed, buildings destroyed, granted nothing up to US code there, but pretty scary just the same. Take care and be safe.

Thanks Pens and everyone.  Still doing good here.

Kummock glad you got to Lowes - both them and Home Depot are open extended hours to sell dust masks and generators, altho it still is a non-event for us here.  Everything has gone north and that is good for us, not so good for those north of us.

The "Big Guys" are not flying into Anchorage and my wife, on Alaska Airlines, has rescheduled her flight from today and will try again Thursday.  She's with family, so it's all good.

I can't quite see Mt Redoubt from the house, but if i walk to the end of the driveway i have a good view of the mountain.  Unfortunately it is overcast so i can't get a good pic.  I'll post one up if it clears.

The weather cleared and i got to see Mount Redoubt for the first time since it started erupting.  And as i was looking at it, it erupted!  Got a bunch of pics and here are a few.  This eruption spewed a cloud to 35,000 feet - just a little one compared to the ones over 50K that we couldn't see.

The bad news is that i was on my way to the airport to pick up my wife, who has been trying to get back to Alaska for 3 days, and her flight was turned back to Anchorage because of this eruption - bummer.

Great Pics As&8s!! Excellent timing to be there at the right moment!! You should post those on the Volcano site! My cousin is still here too...his flight was cancelled (ANC to SFO) last night and all Alaska flights were cancelled out of ANC this afternoon....I told him the it's a good thing we have lots of salmon. Served him "Death by Blackened King Salmon Pasta' last night...I think that he cancelled those flights himself! ;)

Aces-n- eights,

Those are once in a life time pictures. I doubt that you'll ever be at the right time and place to take live erupting volcano pictures again.

Timing is everything!  My daughter and i headed out to the airport yesterday, looked down the driveway and were able to see the mountain for the first time in weeks.  Reversed back to the house to get the camera - sure glad i did!

Kummok, get your cuz full of salmon and have him stop wishing for volcanic activity!  I'm ready for this to settle down enough to get my wife home!   ;D

Exciting times...

Hey Guys,

Glad to hear that you're all safe up there, and we all hope that it stays that way.  About the only time that Lowes stays open later here in NY is when the Girl Scouts are selling cookies out front.

Aces those are some AWESOME photos.  I pray that you can keep taking them with the wind headed in the opposite direction.

Jeff

Hey Kummok, are you getting dusted down there?  The mountain blew again this morning and there are ash fall warnings for the southern part of the Kenai Peninsula where Homer is located.  Take care!
