Title: pid oscillation / Fan modification.
Post by: starship on March 29, 2009, 05:16:56 PM
With the fan modification so many have done reduce pid oscillation? Yes, I know about auto tune.  Just wondering if the fan makes a difference. I checked upper shelf, lower shelf,  pid, and door. All were within 1 degree.

star ship,

the fan mod is to help keep the temp even  through out the box and faster heat recovery when you open the box to rotate  the meat or check on the condition..

hope this helps

If you are seeing a variation in temperature on the PID than you need to run the autotune, make sure to simulate a load when doing the autotune. Put bricks or something on the shelves in place of meat.

If you are seeing a differance in temp from one shelf to another shelf or the front of the unit to the back then the fan will help by circulating the heat around the inside of the box vs the heat just flowing up to the vent.
