My Grandson and I just finished a desk for him. We used scrap wood from work. It is a medley of different types of wood. When I get a chance I'll give you the species.

Nice looking desk. Two questions 1) What is the skull laying on the floor? 2) How drunk did you have to get to want to SHAVE the cat and how many scratches did you get? LOL ;D ;D

That is one of them middle of the floor desks. All sides are to pretty to put up against the wall.

The skull is a government certified legal giraffe skull. The cat is a sphynx, which is naturally hairless. No fur balls.

That's something not everyone has!! Let alone leaving it on the floor. If I remember right don't you have 2 huge BONE CHEWER's that like to lay at Momma's feet?
I would love to work in a place that has exotic woods like that laying around. I am also a wood worker and have seen what speciality stores charge foe exotic wood scraps. Very nice!

NICE - that's what you can call ultimate recycling. With you SS - my pocketbook gets lighter every time I go to a lumber/woodworking place. I buy lots of scraps. The fun thing I get to do though is to rummage my friends mulch grinding facility. People pay him to dump their scrap wood. He grinds it and sells it to gardeners, landscapers, and places than burn wood for generating steam/electricity. I've scrounged some pretty good walnut, curly maple, spalted stuff, magnolia, monkey puzzle, some great pine, holly, crepe myrtle, yew, Bois d'arc and different fruit woods (all in the round). Well, this being Music City and all, we have a couple of places here that make geetars. banjars, and such. They also dump there scrap there. Boy that is some good pickins. I've gotten some real nice mahogany, truck loads, that I've had fun giving away to other woodworkers. Every once in awhile, I find some really fine quilted maple. Not much though, they really maximize the use of that rare stuff.

Absolutely beautiful woodworking Brad! To think of that wood as someone's "scrap" is, to me, like calling feeder King salmon a trash fish!
Hmmmmm.....maybe I can work up some kinda trade....my processed trash for your processed scrap....could use a good gun display case!?!?!! ;) ;)
BTW, don't mean to insult anyone's pet, but "best" and "cat" don't work in the same sentence for me....I tried to make a hairless breed outta my wife's stoopid cat but it didn't take the "sheep dip in Nair" too well....still have the scars (from the cat AND the wife!!) to prove that it wasn't the good idea I'd thought it would be... :o ;) ;)

If you are willing to collect some of this wild wood. I would be willing to make some great works for the community. I won't sell the works but offer them to the group, or work with our community of friends to sell it to pay for item like the Recipe Site. Or even a yearly Smoker Convention like thing, But that means organizing a bit more then we are now.
I can easily made some small items like Office kits, Boxes, custom items, and others. Depending on the sizes I can make other items. I charge nothing for my time. Its therapy for me.
