Post by: classicrockgriller on October 15, 2009, 11:52:24 PM
Yep, soon, too soon.

This month, 25th.

Sunday at 1:00

Kinda in a fog.

Making my last (I hope) payment on this tomorrow.
(I could have bought 32 to 40 OBS's depending on where you bought them and frieght charge)

Glad I only have one daughter.

Yep, soon, too soon

She's scared to bring him around too often.

Offered to take him Deer Hunting, told him he had to wear these horns on his head and hide in the bushes to attract deer

That what I would do to whoever comes asking for her hand in marriage.

But seriously CRG, I wish them all the best and happiness and may she fills your house with the fill your house with the noses of piddle paddle of tiny feet.

CRG,

Congratulations to your daughter & son-in-law.

I'll help you swallow the cost :D   My friend just got a quote on her daughter's wedding - they are doing it at my friend's house  -- they want almost $20k for flooring for the tent  :o   I said,  we have client's that are contractors, couldn't we get them to build you a floor, it would probably be cheaper and you would own it....

I'm sure you are in shock now but you will be the proud dad when the day comes.

Deb

Congrats to your daughter and to Dad!  She getting hitched here or in the Big State?   I love receptions in Texas, especially in the "home" area.  Always good eats and good dancing!

30 years ago, we did the whole wedding for $250 plus about $250 for a new suit and a new dress.  8:30 in the morning and had orange juice and donut holes at the reception.  Rode off in my brand new RX-7!   Police stopped us within 3 blocks of the church - escorted me to a service station so I could wash off some of the "decorations".  That was a buzz-killer!

My boss and my best friend both just spent $50,000 each on their daughter's.

Well call me cheap or whatever. To begin with I couldn't afford that if I wanted to. And I couldn't enjoy it if I paid that much. Just imagine the stress that would put on the average smuck to try and pay for that. If I didn't have an ulcer from it I would go buy one so I'd have an excuse for all the pain I would be in. My wife and I did it for $350 and at the time that was tough for us. Back in the early 80's there wasn't much work around here. I was without much work for almost 2 yrs and that is why I took the job on the cattle ranch. Spent our 1st anniv. Having dinner at the bosses house and then went for along ride on the atv. Found a nice quiet grassy place overlooking the river along way from anyone and .........well you know. The point was before my mind started to wander yukyuk some of the best most lasting ones don't have to break you to be good things. My sisters wedding cost my parents $15,000 and only lasted 5 months.

It's funny how things work out.  I did the photography at a wedding for a guy I used to work with.  It was fairly informal and probably came in for less than $5000 including my $300 for photography.  It lasted less than 6 weeks.  I hardly had time to get the prints out.

OTOH, my wife and I knew each other for 6 weeks.  We went to Hudson, NH and got married by a JP.  It cost me gas, tolls, a few meals and a motel.  That was 37 years ago.  But, somehow, I'm still paying for it  ;)

Yeah we hired a jp and got married in our rented basement suite. Then we eat some good food and went to the bar.

Here in Jordan, most formalities take place at the engagement. After we re engaged by about three months I called my wife and told her that I would be getting back from Aleppo Syria for a few days and would like to go back with here with me. She agreed, we drove to Damascus, had a nice dinner, spent the night at the Meridien and next day continued to Aleppo.

Last August we celebrated our 13th anniversary.

Wow CRG, you got that one right from start to finish. Her fella is a lucky man and so are you. It is not easy to raise them up right in this world but when we just go with what feels right to ourselves and not worry about the rest of the world, it just kind of happens proper. You obviously got it proper.

Man when I got married that would have bought a house!  ::)

I'm sure I have been lied to. Wifie has access to business checking (stupid me) I really don't want to know.

An Angel Left Her Wings
©  Tina M. Marascia
I have this little angel. For me she left her wings.
She has no idea how much happiness she truly brings.
She brightens up my days with her smiles and her laughs.
She helps me to remember all the blessings that I have.

Her face, it is so perfect, she's sweet and soft and pure.
Sometimes she can be willful and sometimes she is demure.
She tries her very hardest to please and do what's right.
She gives the greatest hugs from morning until night.

Every person that has known her sees this light within her soul
I know that in this whole great world, she has a special role.
She's helpful and considerate to everyone she knows
This light in her shines brighter as my angel grows.

When she sees someone is sad, it opens up her heart.
She wants to do all that she can; she wants to do her part.
She'll squeeze away the sorrow and make me forget about my pain.
She shows me where the sun is when we're hiding from the rain.

I know that God must love me, He showed me with His Grace
I knew just how completely when I saw my angel's face.
And in that very moment when she came into my world,
I knew that she was so much more than just my baby girl.

She would be my sunshine, with a sweetness that won't end.
And when she grows up one day she would be my closest friend.
She would be the reason I would always try my best.
For my little angel baby girl would be my greatest test.

When God entrusts to you an angel, who has left her wings for you.
Encircle her with love with everything you do.
Let her know God made her, and that He trusts you with her care.
Be sure to make time for special moments with her to share.

And when at night she finally says her prayers and goes to sleep
I Thank Him for my angel, and ask for him to always keep
A watchful eye and hand to protect her from this world.
Protect my little angel; protect my baby girl.

CRG.....Congratulations!  If I can make a suggestion???  If she chooses Daddy's Little Girl for the Father/Daughter Dance...Look out!  In the last two month at the Knights of Columbus Hall where I work wedding receptions as the Event Manager or bartender, three times the father has been unable to finish the dance because he started crying.  The last guy was a retired Navy Seal Commander.  He just stood there holding his daughter until the song ended.  His wife came out and handed them Kleenexes.  I don't think there was a dry eye in the room.

CRG, you guys look like you have a wonderful setup for a great day. Savor every moment and enjoy it as I am sure that you will be making every one else there enjoy it. If I may, I would like to share this with you by  Debbee Williams:

Poetry: A daughter's wedding day
My little girl is getting married today
Didn't I just bring her home from the hospital
Seems like yesterday...
Today she will marry the man of her dreams
Wasn't it just last week
she was losing a tooth and
asking for more ice cream?
Today she wears her wedding dress of white
Wasn't it just a few days ago
she was wearing frilly little dresses
and cable cord tights?
Today my little girl becomes his wife
She's all grown up
and now
she will start a new life...
I will miss the little girl she used to be
I cherish the woman
who stands in front of me...
With a tear in my eye
I tell myself not to cry
As I honor her marriage
her new life
as his wife...
I just want to say
"Have a happy marriage
this wonderful day!"
Love
Daddy

Just a little update.

Daughter made it Home late Thursday and had hoped to go out to eat, but instead we go it to go at our fave place.

"Shrimp Boat Manny's"  A nice Cajun restaurant with all the goodies we like. Daughter worked there during H/S. Great food.

MENU: Bloumin Onion with manny's pink sauce.
5 lbs of Boiled Shrimp (Hot Spice)
5 lbs of Boiled Shrimp (Mild)
          Tub of Chicken/Sausage Gumbo w/rice
          Tub of Crayfish e'toufee w/rice
          2 lbs of home fries
          ahellofalotof seafood hushpuppies
5 lbs of butterflyed double dip (with rice flour) shrimp

What a feast. Was so full after supper, I was miserable, but the nice thing was paper plates, no dishes.

Was a fun time, Lots of laughs.

Manny came from Lafayette, La. He came down here not to start a restaurant, but to get a job on a pipeline.
He work 20 on, 10 off. So on his days off he started selling food off the side of the road. Guess what happened
from there. He has "THE" place in this town and his food has never suffered in 30 plus years.

Actually, the price sounds pretty reasonable to me.  That's about $10/lb for the shrimp, let alone all of the other stuff AND having it cooked for ya.

As I've gotten older (it took years of practice) I can't eat as much anymore.  10-15 years ago I could easily knock off a 24 oz Porterhouse.  My wife and I had a one pound Steelhead fillet on the grill for dinner tonight and we have leftovers.  The real problem is that I still need bigger pants.  :-X

They had a open house meet the bride and groom type thing tonite at the grooms sister's home in the Galleria area of Houston. It was a fun time, except wife wouldn't let me wear my levi's and sandals and I didn't shed a tear.

I left in a hurry and forgot my camera, but my wife has been in Houston with my daughter for 3 days and she took pics and I will scan hers when she comes back.

They had the food catered and was crap except for the roasted lamb and rice. I guess they didn't have a Bradley, lol.

Thanks again for all the well wishes.

Ray......
My daughter started off her freshman year in college at Univ of Texas in Austin and I went to visit her and we stopped off at a cigar shop and she bought me a Macanudo PP Vintage Jamaica from '89 and told her I would smoke it on her Wedding Day, so that was my smoke. Very nice cigar. I think back then in 96-97, it was around $30. I started to sell it on e-bay to help pay for the wedding.....J/K.

I am not a fancy person. This is my daughters idea not mine. I'm an East Texas half cajun redneck.

My idea of a good time is a whiskey in one hand and a chicken drummie in the other.

Congrats buddy !

Your daughter is a beauty BTW.

We recently got married but it was pretty redneck comared to that wedding.  Too fancy for us... ;D

I am not a fancy person. This is my daughters idea not mine. I'm an East Texas half cajun redneck.

My idea of a good time is a whiskey in one hand and a chicken drummie in the other.

AMEN

I love East Texas/Louisiana BTW.  Just about moved there a number of years ago.

My daughter started college at Univ of Texas for two years. She went to Europe during the summer before her junior year. She transferred to Univ of Houston for her Junior and Senior year in college. She was 1 of 30 students out of 1830 applicants to be selected into u of h 2 year entrepreneur program. Univ of Houston has a very broad ratio of students from everywhere. Her future husband was in this program also. His dad is from Iran and his mom is Russian. After graduation, she traveled Europe, France, etc and India for 9 months. So this has been a bit of a culture shock for me.
