Title: I cant take it any more
Post by: OU812 on November 06, 2009, 06:16:28 AM
Ok I have been trying to keep this in side but my dad had a heart attack last night and I cant quit thinking about it. He went in for a triple bypass at 7:00 this morning and I havent herd anything. I keep telling my self that every thing will be fine but I keep thinking thats the same thing they told when my grandma his mom had one. She is no longer with us.

OU812,
I am so sorry to hear about your dad and will be praying that he recovers.
My dad had a triple bypass August 2008 and he is doing better than ever.
The surgery does take hours and your dad will probably be in ICU for a few days.
Take care,
Carolyn

Hang in there!  Those docs know what they are doing and can perform great things.  Prayers will be said asking for them to be able to use all the skill they have, and for comfort for your dad and for you and for your family.  My wife's best friend's husband went in 2 days ago.  He'll have a scar, but he'll eventually feel better than he has for years.  So will your Dad!  May God Bless!

I have a friend who had the same last year.  I took him to the emergency room after forcing him into the car.  He is in great shape now and feels better than in years.

The good news is they are correcting the problem before a catastrophe occurs where there is no correction.

Prayers are with you and yours.

Thanks for the support every one.

I feel better now, I havent felt that crappy sense I was a paul bearer for my sons best friend a couple years ago, 16 is way to young to go.

Dad came out of surgery around 1:00 and in recovery. The Doc said he had to replace 3 arteries on the back and 4 on the front, Doc also said the old man has one hell of a strong heart.

Heck I didnt realize there was so many arteries on the heart.

My hat is off to the Doctors and there staff, 6 hr non stop, guess thats why they get paid the big bucks.

Going down tomarrow to see him. Huntin can wait.

Great news indeed.  He'll have some recovery to do, but he'll be better than ever at the end.

Gift idea if you have a Staples store nearby...   My dad had both hips replaced a couple years ago, and I got him one of these to take with him during Physical Therapy sessions.   It definitely lightens the mood, and gives everyone a smile.   My mom fell and shattered her shoulder just a couple weeks ago, so I got her one as well.  Every time the doctor or nurses came in to check on her, they'd give it a pound.    $5 well spent.

Thanks for all the support and kind thoughts, everyone.

Went down sat. to see the old man. He was kinda in and out of it the 4 hr I was there. They just took him off the morphine drip and gave him a morphine pill when I got there and I could see the pain he was in, I could hardly hold back the tears and my throat was all choked up. They should have gave him the pill a little before they did as I could see the drip wore off before the pill kicked in. Man that was tough, just watching him suffer. All I could do is keep telling him that its going to get better and started talking about the kids, his grand kids, trying to keep talking even though he was biting the bullet.

The Doc says he can go home this Tue if the tubes in his chest stop draining the fluid and his blood pressure gets back up to norm. The Doc said the old man has one hell of a strong heart and was able to do the surgery with out putting him on a bypass machine, he said they held my dads heart in there hands the whole time they were working and it didn't miss a beat.

Sounds like its going to be three month's before dad will be able to do anything.

OU it is still great news and I can only imagine what you were going through. It is har to see loved ones suffer.

Three months may sound like a long time and it may just be enough for you to plan all the great smokes you are going to make and have your father over after he gets well and back on his feet.

OU,
I know it was tough but there is much to be thankful for. Sounds like he's recouping about as best he can.  Really good is they didn't have to put him on the bypass machine.  The two most critical times in that surgery are putting them on the bypass machine and then taking them off.

He's gonna be sore as hell for awhile but all in all sounds like he did really well.  Take a deep breath.  He's going to be fine.

Called the old man today just before lunch and he seemed to be in better spirits, as he was giving my step mom crap on how little he will be able to do when he gets home. They were joking around about shoveling the drive and my dad said every time he would give her the shovel all she would do is lean on it wile he was snow blowing the rest of the drive then he would have to take the shovel she was leaning on and finish the rest.

They pulled 2 of the tubes from around his lungs, still has 2 smaller tubes in there. Doc said that he might be able to go home towarrow. His blood pressure is still way to low and there is still fluid draining from around his heart. He says he is still in allot of pain, he says its like trying to breath with an elephant sitting on his chest.

The Doc was telling dad were they got the arteries from and that's why his chest was herting so bad. Get this they got the arteries from between his ribs and not from his legs, so not only was he split down the sternum he was split in between the ribs also. I told him well at least you wont have to worry about getting cold feet in the winter. He tried to laugh but it started to hurt and all he could do is chuckle.

Lunch came in so I let him go, he said they brought in a roast beef sammie that the meat was about an inch thick with some veggies and some jello looking crap. I'm just like him not much of a sweet eater, mainly meat and tater kind of a guy.

Just a little heads up, the old man, Bruce, is doing a lot better now.

I sent him an easy button, (thanks guys, you know who you are) and it lifted his spirits greatly. My step mom, Sandy called me Fri the 13 th and thanked me for the button again and again. She couldnt believe how much that simple thing lifted him up out the slump he was in. I was glad to here he was feeling better and it freed up my mind as deer season opened the 14 th.

Dad was giving her crap about how much she was freaking out on every little mone or grunt of pain he would get when trying to get more comfortable. He would just hit the button, now he hits the button every time she tries to be the over bearing wife. He hit it a couple times when we were talking cause he was trying to reach his glass of water and she would say I will get it.

He wants to put the button on a string and hang it around his neck so he is ready when Sandy starts to tell him you cant do this or that.

It is still hard to sit up with out help but he is getting better every day. I'm going down to see him tomarrow and bring him some fresh salami and stuff.

Bruce is able to stand up and walk now, with a little help getting up, once up he gets around pretty good. He is wearing a girdle type thing around his chest to help keep things were they belong. His sense of humor is getting better every day and the easy button is on the table next to him. When he was up I had Taby snag a pict, which aint easy, just to show the old man and his good looking kid.

Just a little up date.

The old man is in PT and doing good, they have him walking on the tread mill with a million wires and some breathing things hooked up to him and doing some exercises to strengthen his chest muscles. He still cant open a bag of chips, which drives him crazy and has a hard time sitting up from when he is in bed but getting better every day.

Now the Doc wants him to loose 30 lbs. Ha, you should here him bitch about that one. "I havent been under 200 lbs for 35 G** D** years and there aint no G** D** way I'm going to loose 30 G** D** lbs what do they want me to do starve" Its kinda funny to here him cuss, just the way he says it.

I totally forgot to tell everyone

The old man had a small amount of fluid in his lungs and was on oxygen for a wile, bitching about the Doc and how many medications he was on. But was up and getting around better than last time I was there. That was just before Christmas.

We went to see him new years day and he was back to his ornery self, the fluid was gone and he was off the oxygen. He has moved up to the big boy weight machines and working on some ecliptic's. He is really moving along good he wants to do things the Doc and trainers wont let him do, you should here him bitch about that. I couldnt help my self when he said that there are mostly women at PT, I said you were just trying to show off with trying to push your self farther than the trainers would let you. He said well wouldnt you? I said ya but I wasn't gutted like a deer. He got a good laugh out of that one.

Talked to him just the other day and it sounds like he is really liking PT as he is feelin better every day and aint short of breath any more. He is moving up on the weights and reps and the time doing ecliptic's, he said he will be as big as Arnold by the end of this. I said you go stud muffin. He liked that one.

Sounds like he is well on his way to a full recovery.

Thanks for the support everyone.

Curt

Curt,
That's great news. Is he still taking his easy button to PT or does it just sit next to his chair?

Its mainly next to his lazyboy, he says he needs it at home more than PT

Sandy wont let him do anything, so he lets her do it and when shes done and sits down he hits the button. The other day he was going to go to PT and looked out the window and seen a little snow on the drive then looked to Sandy and before he could say anything she had her coat on and out the door. When she came back in the house he hit the button.

To funny.

Ornery old fart.

Great to hear the progress, OU.  I totally understand the tennis shoes vs. Boots thing.  Dad and his brothers were the same way, just didn't look right wearing the tennis shoes.
