Just thought it would be fun to start a new open thread for wild, WAY.OFF.TOPIC recipe discussions... Perhaps leaning more towards recipes disasters, minor grease/electrical/structural fires, thereifixed.com situations, "here... hold my beer while I ... this" memories, etc...
No worries about Somali thread hijacking here. I started it, so we're on the crazy train to nowhere!
However, let's do try keep it food related.
Pics welcome - if not strongly encouraged!!
Larry, would you like to go first???
This will be interesting. ;D ;D

And go ahead and toss some cards down to Lubbock there, Jethro...
Hey how about those White Sox.........LOL
Here....hold my whiskey glass
WTS,
Grease fire and you're not playing?! You have the best pics of all.
STC, why would you ask me to go first? Not trying to HIJACK the thread but I'm pretty sure that Hal's hit song is not yet available on itunes.

I got a recent funny story, a true one.
Well, anyhow...
We all thought the mental hospital (we wuz told not to call it the "insane asylum" no more) might do her some good.
Maybe it did, but when she escaped and showed up at our house with the currently unemployed ex-Hell's-Angel...
Momma wuz skeptical about that "cure" stuff. And she's a semi-expert about cures...
Heck, she cured my Attention Deficit Disorder.
It comes back sometimes, but it's under control when I'm hanging pictures for her.
I don't think we ate any food; momma didn't really want them to stay.
She wasn't feeling nearly as entertained as me and my sweet baby sister.
I think they just had to "go on".
But, if we had eaten somethin'...
It probably woulda been fried. Yeah.. fried food. yum.
If WTS gets to post his "How Not to Cook a Brisket" AKA "Burnt Ends" Pictures. I'm gonna need 5 new cards.
Uh, anybody ever broken 2 ribs, cracked 2 more and poked a hole in their lung while cooking pork ribs on a grill on a houseboat?
I'm thinking this thread is OVER! GAME SET MATCH and I have the medical records to prove it. Thankfully no cameras around.
We called it "rib bust 1" because the next year we went back on a houseboat for the annual "rib bust 2".

Top that one CRG!
I'll start with our 'scientific method'..
We use nothing but professionally labeled lab equipment:

Weber reps flew in to personally help set up our cooking arena:

Not so fast - we'll need to see the x-rays...
More cards for all my friends!!!!
Why Ike, whatever do you mean? Maybe poker's just not your game Ike. I know! Let's have a spelling contest!
Yep, Ky wins this round!!
I was making my stuff for thre recent ICB and had made a delicious pear salsa. I cold smoked some chick thighs and then blackened them. they were delicious.
Only had the last thing to do and I had made these 7 or 8 times before, and that was to make puffy tacos from masa. I "tried" once no go.....hmmm
2nd time, same 3rd,4th,5th I quit. I still don't know what I was doing wrong, but I was so pissed that I took the bag of masa and ran out the front door screaming
and ran to the first tree I could find and beat the crap out of that tree with that bag of masa. It exploded and covered me from head to toe.
Had to strip my clothes off, take a shower and clean up my mess in the kitchen. I got drunk that nite.
STC, That's it? That's all you got? A bunch of containers with numbers on them and cars in a driveway and a bunch of dirty dishes?
WTS, would you PUHLEEZE post your little mishap pics again?
Sorry Pat, the new consumer privacy disclosure regs prevent me from posting my medical records.
KyNola
Yeah... STC... Don't you have any pics of the Macoupin County Soy Bean Princess???
(Note: Cooking Summits should be scheduled on any day that ain't called "Irish Days")
CRG,
I hope you understand my response was directed at STC and not you. You jumped in there before I could hit the "send" key.
Your reaction to the masa flour was so very similar to mine one afternoon when my gas powered weed whacker wouldn't start. After pulling the starter rope about 2000 times, I very calmy stood up, grabbed the whacker by the spool end, raised it over my head, swung it around my head about 3 times and launched it as far as I could. Jan said "so now what are you going to do?" My response was "open a beer and then go get another weed whacker". Life's too short and it felt SOOOOOO good.
KyNola
KyNola...
No wonder they don't golf across the street from you anymore ;-)
I was hammering something and hit my finger, threw the hammer down and it bounced back and hit me in the man hood.....well my finger didn't hurt at all.
I'm thinking CRG and I may be in a tie for first place. Break 2 ribs, crack 2 ribs and poke a hole in your lung may not trump a hammer to the boys. I'm saying CRG and I are both holding royal flushes in this card game.
Anyone else?
KyNola
You guys are crazy! ;D
Burnt water, don't think it can't happen to you.
OK, I was going to cook up some canned veggies for dinner. I opened the can and drained the liquid in the pot, turned on the stove and went out front to pick up the paper. I decided to start watering some plants, completely forgot I was cooking. Noticed a funny smell, went inside only to find a smoke filled house. Smoke alarm started yelling, went to the stove only to find a completely empty and black pot, blacked stove top, black tray, black crap underneath the tray. Amazing what a mess some stupid water can do!

KyNola... Who was that doctor that owned that fancy old stone mansion at 9th & Broadway (?)
Well, way back.. Uhhh..I lived in the old apartment bldg across the street...
And one night, I started some spaghetti sauce...
Did you know that the Fire Department can wake your butt up if they want to?
And now for something completely different. badumbum...........I don't know where to go with this.............Aman walked into the bar and sat down next to a horse. He looks at the horse and say "hey why the long face"..........How about those Giants.

Geez, I hate when that happens. ;D
Two penguins are sitting on an iceberg....
The iceberg splits clean in half.
One penguin on each side.
As the two halves start floating away from each other...
One waves to the other, and says, "Bye, bye, chocolate milk!"
There is a 'food' sorta reference there. That's the important thing, eh?
Ok, well, if chocolate milk ain't food...
A slow-smoked bacon-wrapped penguin dipped in beer batter and deep fried...
and then the oil bubbles over... fire ensues... and spreads... well.. like fire...
I mean, if the penguin had originally started out for Giants stadium...
Whether he had tickets or not....
That's about food, right?

I love this one CRG.
It is sad, but a true story!
CRG...
Who's that Blue Collar boy?
"I don't care who ya are... dat der is funny!"
Larry the "Cable Guy"
Speaking of wives...
Y'all ever watch those HGTV shows?
Young couples buying their first house?
The guy is always saying stupid crap like, "this could be my music room"...
Or, "honey you can have this side of the walk-in closet; it has more room... I wuvu..."
How come they never show the "post-closing-this-is-the-basement-sit-your-@ss-down-Fido" sequel?
Yeah - that's him!!!!
KyNola's in bed now, right? Coast clear?
Ya gotta watch those guys named "Larry".
I like the ones where you know the bitchy wife is dead on in season.
Husband goes from spending 350,000 for a house to 1.2 mil in one show.
Uh huh... Seems they never show the "your-bank-stopped-loving-you-today" sequels either...
Sad thing too. Might be very instructive for people that forget you gotta EAT too.
That's about food? yeah???
Give me something to smoke (food), and I am a happy camper.
Yep. Food and family is what it's all about.
---
"Stick to making whiskey, son. Your family is distinguished by its incompetence at doing anything else."
Hope I made my last whiskey for the nite. my fingers are getting drunk.
Ok, we had a bit of 'science', now for the 'beer'.. (here are a few 'disaster' shots to whet your whistle, KyNola!)
Bubba and I actually had quite a long conversation, on how to do this.
It turned out well. Briefly.

That mess in the background? More on that later.. But we had 12 of Hal's relatives arriving for drinks and dinner in about 90 minutes...
Wow That sucks, Anything survive.
Are you guys allright
HR
Yeah, we hunkered down in the garage when the hail started (after clearing room in Hal's "lawn mower bay" to jam my car in) and let it all blow over. It was what they call a 'microburst', but it flattened all kinds of stuff, knocked trees down, etc.
The beer survived!
I should have put the date in there... That was 2 summers ago - early July.
Ahh ok. That is a beautiful yard you have and love the brick house.

That's Hal's place... And I agree, it is a beautiful setting! (well, not that particular afternoon, but the rest of the time it is)
When you survey wreckage like that (he didn't even show ALL the pics of what all we had setup - and the after)...
You can't even get your bearings at first - Yeah, you notice what you see destroyed...
A little while later, you begin to notice some things have totally vanished...
I'll never forget MrC sayin'... "Uhhh... I found that OTHER umbrella"...
I was waiting for you to get home from work, first... More to come.
Awrighten.
Hey - thanks y'all for the nice comments on "Wildcat Manor"...
Been here about two years. Ya learn to "Never say never"...
But, we plan to stay here "till the cows come home"
Deal me in. Just trying to help a dear friend out by cooking for 1100 people. Briskets, and pork butts. Had 4 big iron pits going, helpers all lined out, meat seasoned and on the pits, just sat down to relax and wait........ When a freaking tornado came through and demolished our cooking area. AND smashed my truck with a tree! I think it was the first and only time I have ever screamed like a girl and ran for my life.

"Screamed like a girl" LOL..
Yeah, we're all tough as nails... 'till reality drops by at 140MPH...
WOW..
Ron, that shot of "green sky" give me the heebie jeebies... Seen that before.. [shudder]
I have looked everywhere for the after shots of the cooking area and can't find them. It was a mess and was ankle deep in water. Limbs and trees down everywhere. We looked like drowned rats.
Hey... [disaster shock aside...]
Who built that rig???? That looks "military grade"!!!!
Another thing...
Who the heck has 1100 friends?
In the immortal words of Doc Holiday, "I don't".
Ron aint they in the post over on ATB?
We didn't have any damage, but it made a helluva mess of our cooking area..

That's me. Apparently, I'm not easily distracted when I'm cookin' ;-)
Yeah, we cooked up a storm (ha) that weekend...
I think we did 20 pounds of wings that night by the light of my cell phone. (in the mud, under an umbrella, as more rain came after that big storm)
