Title: Hello from Redmond, WA
Post by: smokin65 on December 29, 2009, 02:25:03 PM
My new smoker is on the way and I can hardly wait to get smokin....I've been checking out this forum and it looks like it's going to be my best source of smoking information.  Now that I'm retired and starting to get under my wife's feet, I need the new hobby to keep my mind and my tastebuds sharp.  I look forward to reading more on the forum.  Oh, I'm getting the BDS-4

Dangit, CRG - State Farm is the "good neighbor" people.

I KNOW - I saw it spray-painted on a garage door after hurricane Andrew:
"State Farm.  Like a good neighbor, Where the h#ll are you?"

It's still in transit, just checked the UPS tracking number and they say it won't arrive until the 5th.  I can hardly wait.

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome.  I've just recently semi-retired and I am learning that it now takes longer to do nothing than before I retired.  My dear wife is supporting my desire to learn how to smoke properly, so I envision many experiments in smoked meats and fish in my future (one of our good friends who regularly smokes salmon is a bit miffed that I might be giving her some competition).

smokin65, While you are waiting you can go to the Bradley Home Page and review

the manual to your smoker so that you will be ready for when it comes in.

Here is a couple of links for you to take a peek at:

recipe site: http://www.susanminor.org/forums/

If you are going to be smoking fish you may want to consider a PID

This is a plug n play unit that shows how it is use in controlling the temp
of the cabinet and being programmed for smoking fish.

Hope this helps. Just remember if you have any questions just ask.

Hi Classic,

I've been pouring over the forum, I've already downloaded the manual and have been reading about all the trials and tribulations of smoking on this forum.  This forum has so much support to offer that it really gives me confidence that any question will be answered and help given really fast.

Just in case you are interested, the smokin65 handle refers to my car, not my age (I'm not 65 yet).

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh...  What did I miss?  Where's my Maker's?

Are we talking about 1865?
Carpet-baggin' wagon "cars"?

If your '65 is smokin' you might need to hone the cylinders, get new piston rings and maybe knurl the valve stems.  Or heck, just start her up and throw a pork butt on the intake manifold.

Tin foil manifold cookin'!
Yeah.. it works.

Kids sure do learn a few things when they run away with the circus.
At least that's what CRG says.

Ha, that's almost funny.  I guess you couldn't tell by looking at my picture....It's a 1965 GTO convert, tripower, 4 speed.........

I hope everyone has a great New Years celebration, or simply a quiet evening at home.....I'd be smoking on my Bradley.............if it was here.

Hey Rick!  I am in Fall City, less than 20 miles out SR 202 from Redmond!

Maybe we should form the Eastside Bradley Club or something!

Hi Pat, that might be a good idea.  But you better wait for me to smoke for the first time so you could decide if you would even want me in the club..... ;)

Nice looking ride Rick - and Happy New Year.

I had a '67 but they were getting pretty "fluffy" by then.

YAY!!!! My smoker arrived at 5:25pm tonight.  I've already washed the trays, pan, bowl, etc and will put it together tomorrow time allowing (my dad has been ill and I've been spending a lot of time with him at the hospital).  I'm going to install an outlet at a spot undercover on my deck as well as a light so I can check on things when it gets dark out.  If time allows, I'm going to Costco tomorrow or Thursday to pick out some meat.  After unpacking there was only a minor dent on the top of the door and a couple of scrapes on the bottom of the pan.....so, here's hoping that I can do my first smoke by this weekend at the latest.
