Title: Bread dipping sauce
Post by: classicrockgriller on April 18, 2010, 05:01:04 PM
I know I could goggle it, but was wanting something someone here on the forum has tried.

Looking for a dipping sauce for crusty bread.

Like EVOO and ????? (assortment of spices)

Any Ideas?

I would put Balsamic in it but want to add some spices.

I recently bought some fresh Moz that was sitting in EVOO with herbs. I dumped out the Moz (well I did use a few pieces on a pizza) and used it as dipping sauce. WOW!.

In a pinch try this. Of course that is depending on if you have an herb garden growing.

I take the EVOO(good stuff) and pour it onto a dish and then mix in rosemarry, thyme, oregano, basil, and cilantro that was chopped up really fine.  For heat just add some black peper or white pepper or even a little cayane........

Thanks ron for the info.

Am baking some bread as I type and it is a sweeter type started than just sourdough.

A little spice might just be the thing.

I have been using organic extra virgin coconut oil on toast instead of butter. It is very good.

I use fresh marjoram, minced garlic and a pinch of salt. Now and then I'll pull out the aged balsamic and give it drizzle or two. I find you cant go wrong with the marjoram!

We used to go to a restaurant that would:

Grate parmesan cheese onto a plate
Grind some black pepper
Sprinkle some crushed red pepper
Sprinkle some salt
Drizzle some EVOO over it

Simple but good :)

Not exactly a dip but one of my favorite appys and sooo simple!

EVOO and minced garlic on your sliced bread, under the broiler until golden and crispy
- top with peeled and sliced roasted red pepper (haven't tried smoked yet but go for it!)
- slice of proscuito
- grated parm cheese (why not smoke that too?!)

Back under broiler until you can't wait any longer...enjoy
