Title: New Smoker Showed up tonight, very, very, very bummed.
Post by: waterkc on June 21, 2010, 07:03:53 PM
So I came home tonight knowing my smoker would be at home when I got there ( ;D). So I get there and sure enough on the porch it a rather large box, with plastic wrap (cat in the hat reference <I's so Excited!>).

So I get the Camera, and start the unveiling. I got pics of the box in plastic, the box with out plastic, the box open, the smoker on the table, umm hey wait this is a Digital, 4 Rack in Black, what the heck I ordered a Original 4 rack in Stainless, awe man :'( . Start the re-boxing of everything and contact the seller. I was so sure tomorrow I would be smoking the two pork loins I have had soaking for a day now. Man I am bummed, carp-o-la.

I hope the vendor takes care of this and gets me a smoker asap. Just very very very bummed.

a digital 4rk in BLACK?

Holy Smolies.

My first place I ordered mine from went out of business before they shipped mine and had to re-order from

another company.

The wait was worth it.

Soon it will be a distant memory.

Yeah just have meat sitting and had big plans. I can recover I am sure, I am just going to drink the porter I brought home from the Brewery instead of using it for the meat.

Lol

Not to plug any particular vendor, but the prime selling point that got me to buy my black OBS was Bass Pro's offer to refund my $ within 30 days, regardless of amount of use, and to give me store credit for life if I didn't like the thing at any time.  Can't get better customer service than that!  Of course, I can't imagine returning it -- it creates about half the food we (and much of the neighborhood) eat around here...

As I said in a previous post, it is great to have sellers who have the confidence to sell a great product, stand behind it, and not simply try to sell the most expensive thing to a customer.  Now, after working with Bradley regarding a minor face plate problem, I know I have two layers of protection, Bradley customer service is top notch!

To be honest I think it only fair to see how they handle things first before I mention any names. I would say that everyone has a bad day now and again, so lets chalk it up to a mistake and see how well they recover.

here are the shots, its a nice unit, just won't fit in the back yard with all the other stuff I have that is Stainless Steel. So I wanted the Stainless and the OB as I have plans for upgrades. Already have a pid and some other stuff for it.

Well... at least you have a nice back yard!!!
(and a nice mini-human fence!)

Good luck getting that straightened out.  Most vendors will do ya right these days.
(they know the internet will put 'em outta business if they don't)

Well sorry to here this but like Sonny(CRG) said "Soon it will be a distant memory." And that is an awesome looking backyard. How about some pics of that for now.

Hi waterkc,

Welcome to the forum.

I believe Bradley stopped making the stainless steel OBS several months ago. Some retailers may still have them in stock, but that is a long shot. I hope you get everything resolved to your satisfaction.

Ok so now that I have heard back from JacksCountry Store (umm yeah that is who it had a bad day). I can't say enough on how well they have handled this. Christy is just TOTALLY AWESOME! (Bolt Movie Reference). I have the Mini Humans as you can tell ;D.

Here is how she decided to handle it:
Holly Crap they are my new favorite vendor to deal with.

Thanks for the Back Yard Comments. I have been in the house for about 6 years, and it was with the pool when we moved in. The placement of the pool equipment was not well thought out if you ask me. I added the grommet-fence and changed some of the plants, all the freak-in sprinklers (argh! - as I just had some go out on me this weekend) and then added our own furniture. I can post a few more shots of the back yard for sure, thanks for the compliments. I am also going to move the pool equipment this year to behind the water fall, as where it sits now is where I am going to build the Built-in BBQ\6 Tap Bar\Smoker\Dual Sink\Fridge Island. I want to cover it with the same type rock that the waterfall is made of. So it should blend in nicely. Its going to take a while as I am doing all the work my self, between a full time job and the Brewery there is not much free time. Once I get things moving I will post some more pic's.

I just got a follow up call from a very nice young lady at Jacks Country Store (http://jacks%20country%20store)where she informed me that I will not be getting the OBS as no one has them. Shoot, shoot, shoot! So I am going to receive a DB-SS instead. I will just have to suffer with that I guess. I had such high hopes for PID installed in the Smoke Generator, but alas. I will have to do with what is there I guess, :D. I can't wait to get it. I have to say that they have done a great job of helping me so far. I would recommend them to anyone.

So why-o-why did Bradley get ride of them?

Waterkc,
If that DB-SS means a Bradley Digital in stainless steel, I don't think they make the Bradley in a stainless exterior.  The interior is stainless.  It sounds like they're going to ship you exactly what you received the first time.  You might want to check on that.

So I did originally order a OBS Stainless Steel Unit. I received a Digital Black Cabinet\Silver Front unit. So that is what I was bummed about. I am hoping that Bradley offers what I was told I am getting. I have to say you guys know more then I. So I hope the vendor does. To be totally honest  I am not sure. I can only go with what I am told. They did offer me a Stainless Steel DB 4rk. So I am hoping that what I see on Friday.

I have to say that I am noticing that I am looking around and not seeing anything close to a SS Smoker. So I will check with vendor, ahh dang it.

Still will be happy with this if that's all they do.

Thanks Lad's

Tell them you will give them $150 for the one you have now so they won't have to ship it back and

discount it cause it was open.

Then I will send you $225 for the one coming in which will be like the one you have now,

and you ship it to me. ;D

Hello WaterKC

We do not make a 4 rack Digital Smoker in Stainless Steel.

The BTDS76P which is what is in your picture has SS on the inside and Powder coated Steel black in color on the outside
just as CRG posted.

I am not sure whats Jacks Country Store is sending you on Friday.

The SS Smokers (BTSTO2) where replaced by the BTDS76P but were not made in a SS model.

The Bradley DS is a GREAT smoker.

I have an OBS and a Digital 6 rk and another.

When you put the PID with the DB, it is a cooker.

If you are lazy and and have things that you are going to site watch, it is a cooker.

Get your extra $$ and you did good.

Hey I have to agree its a great box, just not what I thought I was getting. I don't mean to sound like I don't like it. I am sure I will as its a great smoker. Like I stated before I have many a great meals out of CaptainKM's DB-6rk.

Now not to again bitch, but if you notice in the one of the photos that the Panel appears to be in a bit crooked, well it is. That to me is just not paying attention to detail. I am sure its and easy fix, but heck you spend $4-bills on something you shouldn't have to make adjustments to the fit and finish right?

So with that said, I fired it up and its cycling now.

One the Temp Table

First Power On

40 Minutes in to it and its @ 320 with and ambient of 81 out side. The cabinet temp was at 81 when I turned it on.

Hehe, Yeah My floks have a Japanese Hibatchi that we got when I was 4 and living on Japan. Its the boom-shizzel.  ::)

So question on the seasoning the rig, I would assume ( I know bad, bad, bad ) you just run it a cycle. Do I need to add wood or anything? Maybe I missed that in the Owners Manual?

Thanks Gents for all the support and kind words.

Yeah you want to put ....I think it said 1 1/2 hrs of smoke to it, you better read those instructions again. That is an awesome oasis you have for sure. When I was about 13 my dad sold our cabin cruiser and put a 20'x40' pool in our backyard. I should say he turned our backyard into a pool, cause there was nothing left for yard at all. It was a blast for sure. Especially the "clothing not an option" partys. ;D ;D

Yeah you run the unit for one hour @ 150 with 5 pucks worth of wood. I choose apple as that is what I had, I ran it for and hour at 150. I also added two fire bricks wrapped in foil in on two separate racks just to help keep the heat even.

I will be smoking two pork loins that have been marinating for almost 3 days. Going to smoke for about 2.5 hours. Can't wait to see how they turn out.
Title: Re: New Smoker Showed up tonight, very, very, very bummed.
Post by: classicrockgriller on June 22, 2010, 10:45:35 PM
yes to wood of your choice, temp no lower than 150* to season for an 1 1/2 hrs to two.

I did mine like a radio, I turned it up.

I hope we didn't talk you into something you are going to be pissed off about.

If the warp in the door is a problem, call Brian at Bradley and talk to him.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that!  I thought that it was strange shaped Primo.

I've had the DBS4R for a couple of years now.  Smoked a good bit on it and wouldn't trade it!  Haven't put a PID on it - haven't perceived the need yet!

So I let is smoke for approximately 1.5 hours lastnight, it ran through about 4.5 pucks. I am going to setup to smoke two pork loins that I have been brining for about 4 days now. I will stuff them with apples and wrap them in maple-bacon and then smoke for about 2.5 hours. This is all the wood I have for now. I know it will turn out ok.

I also have a nice big Virginia Ham that I am going to smoke for about 9 hours. Its one that has been cured already, My Dad brought it from Va last time he was out. So I will soak it for a few days, then smoke the junk out of it just not sure with what wood yet. Maybe some Pecan?   ;)

I think I am going to do some Salmon with Alder this weekend also. Sweet and Spicy style, the wife loves it.

The local butcher has a the pork belly coming on Friday, so I will be getting that going also. Going to use the MTQ on it. Then Maple Syrup the hell out of it and let it sit for a few weeks. I will smoke it with Maple.

I will be getting a second heating element, and a fan kit. I added to foil wrapped fire place brick's to help reduce the temp swings and make the recovery time a bit better. That was at the recommendation of CaptainKM. Don't think I will mess with the pid. If I ever did that I would just get another Smoke Generator and mod that one.

Not sure about the warp'd door comment. I think maybe you mean the Digital Display Piece being crooked. I will fix that myself, just seemed kinda odd to me was all.

List if Items I would like to Secure:
Can you Lad's think of anything else I might be missing?

Thanks Again, I will post some picks of things as I go.

If your into jerky you might want some jerky racks. I know some folks have had a problem with peeling some time ago but mine get constant use and I don't have any problem with that. I think it was a bad batch that got out. Didn't take me long to get tired of double stacking and dropping racks to invent the extra rack kits that Scott sells  ;D

The rail kit is nice, it allows "Flexability" in your placement of food.

Here is a pic of my 6 rk that was turned into a 18 rk.

You know there are other options for a PID than the one you install in you smoke generator. Auber has the plug-and-play models designed for the Bradleys. They come in single probe and dual probe. Go to www.auberins.com and check them out, they are widely use on here. And you can hook them to almost anything, except our wife's, nothing can control there temperatures.  ;D ;D
