Title: Did you miss me? . . . Were you gone?
Post by: JJC on July 11, 2005, 06:35:32 AM
Hi All,

Leaving early this (Mon) morning for a one week road trip that starts in Washington DC, where Kathy and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with my parents (her idea, believe me!) and meander up the eastern seaboard visitng friends and relatives.  Final stop before coming back to Boston will be with my oldest son and his fiancee in their new apartment in the Bronx.  I'm bringing smoked Gouda cheese to my folks (their favorite).

I will have little to no access to the Forum, so please try to carry on as best you can without me . . . [;)]

Also, let's all keep NSXBill in our thoughts and prayers as he undergoes major surgery today in San Francisco--get back to smokin' quick, Bill!

Thanks guys!

I just got home a couple of hours ago.  Pretty wiped out.  Surgery completed.  Big changes ahead for me!  My diet for the next two weeks will be like a 1/4 cup of cream of wheat, 1/4 cup unsweetened apple juice cut 4 times with water to make 16 oz, 1/4 cup of creamed soup, and maybe 1/4 cup of tapioca or sugar free pudding.  After finishing the food part, it is like stuffing self for Thanksgiving!  I eat that 3 times a day, and quite filling.

After 6 months, I can start having beef, pork and chicken again as long as not grainy.  No more concentrated sweets, rice, untoasted bread.  Can't have cabbage, broccoli or beans  No loss on the broccoli or cabbage, but I do like beans.  Will sure enjoy the first filet Mignon when I can get into beef again!

Over past month I have been wt lifting one hour and doing water aerobics an hour each per day with personal trainor.  Lost 50# getting ready for surgery.  Nut brown tan everywhere, except abdomen...really bruised up.  No swimming until leisions close, and can't drive for 3 weeks or lift anything over 20# (Hard to take a leak with that restriction[:D]).

Regards to all & Thanks again for the well wishes!

Bill

Dang, Bill....I've had my head buried in fishing, boating, and building a garage/museum....didn't know about your adventure with sharp autoclaved stainless steel[B)][:0]

Welcome back and prayers for quick recovery....I'm certain that your SoCal family of mastication and culinary delight lovers will be as pleased to see you back up to full smokin' speed as the rest of us [:)]

I am not going to stop smoking, just doing it for entertaining now.  Example:  my dinner tonight was creamed asperagus soup with some mashed potatoes pureed in, some sugar-free jello, and 4 oz of cream of rice cereal.  Chasing it with some diluted grape juice.   Just can't imagine anything smoked for me until after I see my surgeon on July 26.    I will start doing some salmon sides after that appt.  I can have 2 oz at each meal for protein.

My daughter and 5 grandkids here on Sunday from Tallahassee.  I am going to do about 16-18 pounds of pork butt for some pulled pork sandwiches around Wednesday.  Probably do about 5# of chicken wings in the other smoker...maybe some ABT's.  Don't tease me with your  taunts guys!  [:D][:D]  You might have to give up for awhile too some day!

I have raved about my sandwiches to them since buying the smokers, so here is my chance to show off the best thing it does. (IMO) I can show the wonderful capability of the Bradley, and the Procom4 will allow me to watch the grub from the pool area while the kids play.

Would I like some?  Heck yes, but I also want to work towards my first goal of a 90# wt loss.  Going out to Yuba County airport, hire a plane and do a 15K foot jump(tandem) with my adult children at that milestone.    Want to start doing fun stuff again, but have to be skinny to do it!  Even at age 60 want to jump again!

I will still use my smokers, but again, just to show off and give the family a treat, for now.   After 6 months out, I can have anything, but within reason!

Heck, I miss my triple shot of espresso more than anything else right now!  Going to roast up some decaf beans tonight and try a latte tomorrow morning.  Most gastric bypass patients become lactose intolerant, so might have to use Soy milk, but it will taste darn good!

Hi Bill,

Just returned from my trip late yesterday, and what wonderful news it is to see you in such good spirits.  Nothing beats coming out of surgery feeling like it's worked!

A week after leaving the hospital, I am down 23#.  I know it won't continue at that rate, but I am pretty impressed.  I am behaving myself competely.  Tonight Marinating and preparing steaks for my wife and son, but I have already had my wonderful puréed cream of asperagus soup with a bit of potatoe to add bulk, a string cheese stick, 4 ozs of sugar free jello.  Life just doesn't get better, unless it is your life!

Keeping the faith!

Looking for folks to see much less of me!

No drugs.  Just reality of this operation is that I cannot eat anything other than liquids, purée until I see surgeon on 26th.  Then, I can have real food, but lots of limitations for the first 6 months.  Some "real food" causes nausea and vomiting, others can clog up the anastomosis, and that could result in surgery being needed.  There is also a problem wih "dumping" if I eat sugars.  So anyway I am fat, and have to stick to this to be successful.  I now have a tool to lose the weight I need to lose, and I am going to use it, despite the sacrifice I now have to make.

Yes, it sucks, but it is my reality now.

Bill I'm proud of you. We all have our own Devils. You just happen to be one who looked his in the eye and said...Go back to Hell. I'm taking my life back.

Again, I'm proud of you and I sure that not only are the members, who have gotten to know you, proud of you--but you have given all of us encouragement and reason to look our own Devils in the eye.

Thank you!

Bill, I know a few people that have had this work done. Let me tell you that they seem so much happier now and feel so much better. My best to you for making your goal.

Now about the roasting the beans... I have been thinking about doing this. I heard you can use a pop corn popper, is that correct? Also do you have an automatic espresso machine?

Bill you are the Man.  I'm glad you are doing so well[8D].  Can't say I could only take the decaf though that would be tough.  Maybe you will be lucky and still be able to do some regular leaded stuff.  I would be glad to roast you some decaf as dark as you want it to help in your recovery.  Just let me know[:D].

P.S.  Coffee is not jiffy pop LOL.

I use a Hot Top Roaster.  Tried a Zach and Dani's first, then an alpenrost and then I settled in for the best on the market for home roasters, in my opinion.  Hottop was purchased from //www.Sweetmarias.com.  I started with a Rancilio Silvia and Rocky grinder.  I now have a Rancilio S27 automatic espresso machine.  It is great.  Picture is here:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v499/nsxbill/S27.jpg

My setup is here:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v499/nsxbill/Bar.jpg

I also have a drum roaster that I can use on my Weber Gas Grill.  It goes on the rotisserie rod and will do 2# at a time.

Yes, you can use a popcorn popper, but if you are a coffee nut like me, you will never be happy with it.

We rarely have just coffee.  Everyone in the house is a pretty good barista!

I am now roasting decaf beans and using Soy milk...6 months of hell, but I have to let my stomach heal.
