Some of you may already know me from the sizzle forum. I just ordered a Bradley OBS and will get it on the 11th. I am not new to smoking but have not used a Bradley yet. I hear good things about them and look forward to learning how to use this thing ;D

If you have a BE or SRG, you will find they are a good tandem pair.

We have a lot of BE/SRG owner here at the Bradley Forum.

Welcome and congrats on your Bradley!

Thanks for all the welcomes ;D

@10.5   All I have done so far is unbox the thing. I have been working so many hours at work. I have a 3 day weekend this weekend so I plan on doing the season and first smoke on hopefully Saturday.

@Squirtthecat  So in your shed do you have your OBS located at eye level with some type of shelf installed and the bottom half of it storage?

Yep..   It is sitting on a cabinet I got from a coworker who was remodeling his kitchen.  It used to hold a convection oven or something like that.   Took a little bit of trimming to get it to fit, but it is nice and stable. (the big landscape paver helps)

The cabinet isn't vented.  I just leave the doors open when the Bradley is smoking away.

Ok so I purchased a cabinet from Target for $79.99 today and proceeded to get to work. I installed it in the cabinet and am currently seasoning the smoker @150 for an hour per instructions. I modified the smoker slightly ;) It now is a COLD smoker. I located the smoke generator on the bottom shelf. Installed a venting system to carry the smoke to the Bradley box. I also have a Y-pipe that the spent pucks drop thru and into a small bucket of water to extinguish them. So far it seems to be working quite well. It is holding at 150 with the temp slider just past the middle. It is about 50 degrees outside and air is calm. I am going to do my first smoke tommorow...BTW no wind is gonna take this thing down!

Very nice set up.  Don't forget that you need to clean the puck burner now and then as the ash tends to build up.

So I finalized the installation decision. I found the spent puck drop tube is working great and there is no problem with any smoke escaping from it. All the smoke is making it's way up the tube into the box. I am going to leave it as is and the very bottom shelf for storage. So I ran it empty and on high this morning when it was cooler outside(just under 50 degrees) to see how high of a temp I could attain without having the wood puck heating element located in the box. It took about 30 minutes for it to reach 230 degrees and it was still climbing. So I am going to the store to get some cheese to smoke first and then I am going to try Smoker Pete's(Thanks Pete) recipe for smoked stuffed pork tenderloin in the Bradley ;D

You may want to look into a remote smoker meat/chamber thermometer cause the Bradley door thermometer is notorious for being 20-30º off.  Noticed your photo shows a temp of about 218º.  If you check it with something else you'll probably find that the temp is actually closer to 240-250º.

Nice looking setup there!

So my wife put together the pork loin using Smoker Pete's recipe. It was rubbed with CB's Kansas City Rub and I am going to smoke with Hickory puks for 4 hours. I am going to pull it at a IT of 150. Also threw in a pic of my kids catching some swing time ;D

Nice smokin Rig, You might want to keep your pucks indoors as cardboard acts like a sponge and will attract moisture to your pucks and they will swell up and not work well  :)

WOWZA muebe  :o :o  I just had me some of my 1st pulled pork and I couldn't eat another morsel but that stuffed pork loin just made me hungry again   :P  That is one beeeautiful loin ...

Might as well stick a fork in ya cause you're done for now.  You're hooked after one smoke!!  The Bradley and the SRG that you own will open a whole new world.

Not so sure that a night vision camera would work in the smoker.  What with all the smoke, the moisture on the lens, and then the heat.  I for one just open the door and take a picture  ;D ;D

After looking a little closer at your installation design for the OBS I was wondering a few things.  How do you access the front panel of the Smoke Generator and get to the ON switch and manual puck advance button?  Other than that it's a great looking design to keep it out of the elements.

I do a "reach-around" ;D There is space to reach behind it and push the advance button/power switch. I do not think I would spend the time to move them to the other side of the smoke generator :D

Maybe you could cut out a small back door for access to the SG.  After all, it's not like we Californians need to worry about all that white stuff I keep seeing in photos ...  ;D ;) ;D

I am very impressed with my Bradley. My first smoke turned out awesome and required very little work. And I was able to cold smoke for the first time. I think I am going to add a heat sink(some thin metal fins) on the outside of the pipe at the heating element for the smoke generator to help remove some of the excessive heat on the pipe. And I did notice that I get a complete burn of every puck on this setup. I am talking a 1/2 size and completely charred puck ;D

WWHHHAHHHAAAAATTTTTTT!!!!!  For those of you not sitting at my desk, there is now sirens and red lights going off.  My newly designed and recently installed "EASY" alert system is working flawlessly.  Rest assured I am committed!  (ok, I left that one open for all ya'll (remember that's plural)).  That other sound you just heard was the arming of the IBD (Intergalactic Bradley Dreadnaught).  It is always prepared at a moment's notice to protect our ocean of plentitude, our intimate halcyon macrocosm of barbecue.!!!!

We were all newbies once, so we know the enchantment, the inclination and temptation of divulging your adroit application of your smoking elightenment.  So before you go off bragging and telling everyone how simple it is - remember the Bradley Pledge.

Loose Lips Sink Ships!

Now everybody don't moan at the same time - those that have been forum members for a time knows what is coming next.

Drum roll please -----Time to break out THE pledge.

Never ever forget the Bradley Pledge - Do NOT be guilty are letting out too much information that in the wrong hands could be detrimental to the enjoyment of our journey to smoking nirvana!  Others have said that in the wrong hands, the release of that information could tend to curtail the consumption of adult beverages.

Raise your right hand, step on your left toe, close both eyes and read after me:

The pledge -- "We pledge, under the penalty of having our Bradley melt into nothingness, never to tell our OR especially anyone else's adoring and admiring family (particularly significant others) and friends, the SECRET (the ease) of Bradley Smoking.  We further Pledge to use our Bradleys as often as possible so as to never let our family and friends be without smoked delicacies.  There are just some things that should not be smoked and until we find out what they are, we Pledge to smoke everything we can catch, drag to the smoker, wrap in bacon, and fit into our Bradleys."

Now go about you merry day, but let that little thing in the back of your mind - that little nagging thing called a conscience take over before you utter any word about how easy this is to any rug rats or wife's of the female persuasion, or anybody else, except us, your forum buddies and anybody whom you might be trying to convert to a Bradley Smoker!

AND as Hal has reminded us in the past -

When you begin a smoke...

Always run your finger in one of those greasy smoker crevices (that you never really clean good).  Dab your face and arms a bit.
"This is war.  Act like it.
Awrighten."

So I decided to add a heatsink for the pipe where the puck burner element is to help remove some of that excessive heat on the pipe for better cold smoking. I am also going to install a bathroom fan in the housing mounted above the pipe to direct air onto the heatsink using flexible metal hose. The heatsink is simply made up of thin copper pipe clamps attached to the pipe with screws. This should bring those smoke tempatures down when I really need it. Here is a pic of the heatsink and the fan(not installed yet)...

Ok so I have the fan installed and I am cold smoking 3lbs of Kosher salt. When I started this morning it was about 50 degrees outside. Well it is now about 70 and sunny. My temps started to climb close to 85 degrees. So I turned on my fan that is blowing air onto the heatsink and the tempature dropped back down and held a little over ambient....Nice ;D Here are the pics. Also I had mentioned how much of a burn I get on my pucks. I took a picture of one and just curious if others get the same burn on a conventional OBS setup.
