Bard, I see you are in Alberta. If you can find it, try Roger's demerra brown sugar. It has a nice taste to it.

I've used this recipe with beef and venision.  It's a sweet variety.

4-5 Lbs. Minimum meat
4 table spoons soy sauce,
2 cups brown sugar,
1 small can tomato sauce,
1/4 tablespoon pepper and 1/4 tablespoon salt,
2 - 16 ozs cans of Pepsi (not Coke),
2 cloves garlic
4 lbs rump roast cut into thin strips.
Marinate 4-6 hours.
