Title: Temp Declining
Post by: Payson on April 27, 2011, 01:04:50 PM
My OBS has slowly started to lose temp. It used to top out at 225 according to the thermometer in the door. Now it tops out at about 200. I checked that everything was plugged in securely. Is this a sign of an element slowly going South? If so, would Yard & Pool be a good place to order a new one? I've heard about some problematic elements so I want to avoid those like the plague. If/when I buy a new element is it a simple 5 minute job to replace the old one?
Thanks in advance!
Chris

Hi Chris

The elements do not normally loose temperature they either work or don't.
I would say your temperature control switch could be wearing out.

All the elements we had problems with have been removed from inventory any element you purchase now
either from Yard & Pool or Direct from Bradley have been tested and are ok.

Yes changing the element is about a 5 -10 minute jobs you will need a #2 Phillip's and a 7mm wrench

Just be careful when putting the insulators back on the screws only need to be snug (to tight and they will crack)

Brian.

The gauge in the door is not an acurate way to measure temp either.

Thanks Bradley & DTAggie. I may just order the temp control switch and a new element as a spare. I've been using the smoker for about 4 years with great frequency so a wee bit of maintenance seems due!
