I have only used 6 hours of Hickory when smoking a pork Butt for pulled pork. I have heard that Apple and Pecan can be good as well.
What does everybody use? and what have you found works the best for pulled pork?
My go to wood for pork butt is Hickory with Pecan being my second choice.
Its the other way around when doing ribs. ::)
Apple is good too just not as robust.
I use Hickory, Oak, Pecan, Maple...
Which in your opinions did you prefer, Hickory or Pecan?
I use hickory wood on pork shoulder but use apple on ribs

For me it is Hickory, with a big hunk of pork like a butt I want a stronger smoke.
With all the other hunks of pork I like Pecan.
To me Pecan is a lighter flavor of Hickory.
I have used Hickory and Apple, alternating the pucks. I have also used all Hickory and have not really noticed that much of a difference.
