Title: A smoker out of destroying a Bradley
Post by: areinert on August 08, 2011, 07:23:59 PM
Hey folks,

Need your advice on a concept I have been thinking about.  I have an old commercial refrig that I want to convert to my new smoker so I can hang my snack sticks for smoking.  I have looked at many of your projects and love the electronics....but.....the electronics are not my thing and seem to be more expensive than just buying a smoker.

So here's my thought.  I want the height of the old refrig and the electronics of the digital Bradley.  I want to be able to control temp, time, and smoke.  So, I was thinking I would buy the smallest Bradley with the digital control and than demolish it and take the parts and put them into my new smoker I am making.

So my question for the wisdom of the group is will it work?  Am I able to salvage the heating element, the electronics, sensors, etc and put them into my new smoker.

If this doesnt work I could use http://www.alliedkenco.com/controller-timeandtemp.aspx

Thoughts?

Here is a link to the same controller directly from Auber Instruments for a little less money.

You can build your own for less or at least similar money especially if your looking to control more power.

The Bradley heating element is 500 watts which won't be enough for a cabinet the size of a fridge. Here is a link to a commercial fridge I built for a frien of mine. It's running 3000 watt oven element.
