I went from a no day weekend last wekend to a 4 1/2 day weekend this weekend due to the weather so I am able to work on my Kirby Cannon. I didn't have water or power to the spot I'm putting it so I ran the power yesterday, and the water will come in the spring. Until then I'll have to use a water hose.
We remodeled our kitchen this time last year so I put the old cabinets in the Treager shed that I built three years ago.

I also had my little helper.

I took Kirbys and Mikes idea and design and instituted a hands free foot control.
Here's the inside of the electrical box.

I cut the lip off of the solenoids and drilled the box so I could mount the plumbing on the outside and the electrical on the inside.
Here it is sitting on the counter. It will go under the counter below the sink when I'm done.

The top left connection goes to the stuffer and the solenoid on the right is the water inlet.
I have two seperate switched outlets on the counter, one for the main power and one for the pump.
The solenoid will be operated by a foot control.
Here's looking down the counter.

Here's both of my helpers.

Here is the famous Kirby Cannon in all of it's glory! I kept it simple up top with just a speed control valve.
I plan on trying to test this tomorrow, we're supposed to get to the 40's tomorrow instead of the 20's today so I figured that'd be a good time to stuff the 15lbs of brats I'm planning on making.
I can already see that I may need to move the pump below the box so it won't be running dry.
Helper sitting down on the
Job. :)

Very nice. Thanks for the pics.
That's the only way I could get her to sit still, she's 13 months old. :o
You're quite welcome lumpy, it's the least I could do for all the info I have got off this forum in such a short time,
Nice job wyrman!
Clean and safe! Very nice! ;) 8)
Mike
DAMMMMMMM you got a lot of pellets piled there! ;D
Thank you Mike. I know the electrical works, I'll find out tomorrow how the plumbing works. :-\
Squirt, I sold Cookingpellets for a year or so. I decided to quit because I wasn't moving them very fast and didn't like dealing with some of the people I had to. Love the product though, very much.
Greg
I use the daylights out of them.. (when I can get a deal on shipping)
Kennewick, eh? Probably not worth the cross country (and back) drive.. :o
Yeah, probably not, especially since you'd probably drive right by Racine,Wi.
I have about 300lbs of bbqr's delight and I still only use cookingpellets.
Sorry, I'm taking your Kirby Meat Cannon thread wayyyy off course..
Let's see some sausage!
The plan is tomorrow.

[/quotI'm glad to see the GFCI behind the cannon, just in case there is a blow out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, Shastabob, I only put that in because I had it. :o That outlet doesn't do anything for the stuffer, it's for my grinder or whatever else. The outlets for the stuffer are under the cabinet.
Greg
Wow you did a fantastic job. That is one fine setup I would only dream of having that much room to work in. Very nice wiring and plumbing job. So do you have enough hose so that you can stick the stuffer over the sink to wash it out. Using the sprayer on the meat pushing tube works excellent to clean the stuffer. I will be home tomorrow if you have any problems give me a call. Remember when you are done stuffing open the air vent and pump all the water out of the stuffer before you attempt to pull out the piston.

Thats great, when working with water around electricty you can never be to safe. By the way i like your set up just wish i had that kind of space. i only have that much space when the wife is gone!!!!!!!!!!! Happing smoking
Thank you Kirby. I have a quick disconnect hose fitting where the tubing connects to the piping, that way I can disconnect the stuffer completely.
Your stuffer looks great, and I love your helpers. I have two Labs, 12 1/2 and 6 yo, my BFF.
Thank you OldHickory. I love the heck out of my labs also, they are such good dogs. I had to put my seven year old yellow lab down last February, she was the black ones puppy so I had her all her life. That really sucked, but I got the black one a new companion in the yellow female.
Greg
One thing I noticed is you might want to put a bypass Line between the stuffer end back to the pump system. This would allow you to suck back the piston with out changing your speed valve setting. Once you set the speed that you like it is nice to leave that alone.
Kirby
I might just do that Kirby. I used it today, I stuffed 15lbs of brats. It took a little getting use to with the valves but I really like it. I forgot to open the speed valve the first time and couldn't figure out why the pump wasn't going back. :-[
I'm not quite set up in my sausage area, still have to get water but I like having the foot control hands free setup.
I used a water hose instead. What a easy to use and quick stuffing stuffer. 8)
I was asked for a little more detail on the electrical part of my control.
I figured I'd post it instead of pm in case it helps others.
I got this idea from Mike and Kirby, thanks go out to them.
I have the hot and neutral from the foot switch connected to the coil. When the foot switch is pushed it energizes the coil which makes the normally open contacts(supply)close and the normally closed contacts(drain)open.
The contacts are normally open or closed when de-energized, energizing them changes their closed or open status.
I have the power to the valves jumped on the line side of the relay, the neutral goes directly to the solenoids.

Nicely done Wyrman!
And even nicer write up! ;)
Mike
Really nice.
I wish i knew how to do wiring like this.
Thank you Nepa and Mike. That's the first time I put text into a pic, believe it or not. lol
Greg
Very nice job on the wiring. I am going to rewire mine. I had stiff wire and could not make it bend well. I have purchased some more pliable wire. I loaned my stuffer to a friend this weekend and they thought it worked great but thought it would have been better it I could find a way to attach it to the side of the cupboard so they could just activate it with their knee. They thought it would be better than having to put most of the weight on one foot while holding down the switch. I could change it to another switch that I have that turns on or off with the tap of the switch. I might try that first before I hang it from the counter.
Kirby
Thank you Kirby. The switch on the side of the cupboard isn't a bad idea, there are so many switching options out there.
