Title: TARDIS
Post by: Scotty-G on May 08, 2012, 10:19:16 PM
I remember a day back during the '80s when I finished my homework early and was able to watch some TV.  While channel switching, I paused on MPT (Maryland Public Television) to see a woman dressed in a leather bikini and a tall man with very curly hair and a LONG scarf step into a blue box that disappeared.  Been hooked on Doctor Who ever since.

Now its the 2K's and for the past few years my Bradley smoker has sat outside, under the all season cloth when not in use.

Only problem was that every year I had to replace the cover.

Flash forward to May 2011 - after relandscaping my backyard, I was able to start a little project.

Just completed designing and building my smoker cabinet - yes it took almost a year to complete & yes - it's a TARDIS  8)

Storage Drawers for my  pucks and cold smoke adapter

Power Switch for lights and smoker as well as hot/cold smoke switch so I don't have to rewire the set up  :D
(http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc186/Scotty-G_photos/TARDIS%20Smoker/th_11Switch.jpg) (http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc186/Scotty-G_photos/TARDIS%20Smoker/?action=view&current=11Switch.jpg)

Even lights up at night
(http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc186/Scotty-G_photos/TARDIS%20Smoker/13FrontDusk.jpg)

When I next have time, will work on incorporating dematerializing sounds and main light fluctuations.

First smoke will probably be this weekend  :P

You took the words right out of my mouth!  I thought Hady, the Hopefull Romantic in Amman Jordan built a cool cabinet a few years back but I think this one rivals it.  I'm really liking the "lit up" pic.

Great work Scotty and good to see you back from time to time.

Excellent craftsmanship and a great idea. 8)

I need one of those so I don't have to look all over h*ll for my pucks, therm's, gloves, etc. every time I fire up the smoker. The good news is that I would be happy to wait a year. LOL

I bet nobody will steal your smoker either. ;D

Now you just need an SRG pimped out to look like a Dalek!

WOW! Brilliant. I grew up watching Dr Who from the mid sixties onwards and have now been joined by my two boys for the past few years. They were both mightly impressed too!  :)

Very unique and unusual. I love it. Also a great show of your craftsmanship. Now all you need is a few speakers wired to a small ipod  with appropriate smoking and eating music. Since you will surely be close by to eat. I would just to gaze upon it.  I would leave it in cold smoke also. Not only looks cool. But safer. Great Job!

I'm over 6' and I can stand completely upright inside ontop of the lower shelf.

I already have a Big Easy but you are giving me some "upgrade" ideas...  :)

Started my first trial run - eggs, cashews & a couple slabs of baby backs covered in Iceman's Rub - YUMMM!  :D

Found a stainless colander with a small mesh and thought this might work for nuts, salt, etc.  Will see how that works too.

Made some Smoked Deviled Eggs (http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc186/Scotty-G_photos/IMG_6807.jpg)
1 missing for uhh ... quality control  ;)

and the cashews - we have already dug into those

Ribs are taking longer than expected  :-[ so their not yet done  :(

Cabinet works great - the smoke exhaust worked like a charm
