Quoteorganic gardening and Dahlias.....any other of these enthusiasts out there?

mws you just got my attention.  In the past I was a moderator for an organic site. Not much into flowers but one year I turned the whole front yard into a wild flower garden. What a hoot. We had people stopping and taking pictures.

Until this last flash freeze caught me off guard I was big into pineapples. Start out with one pup 16- 17 years ago. On the forums I was known as Pineapple Raye. In this sig-pic I used then you can see all of the pups that grow on the base of the fruits I grow.

Only through organics can a person push a plant to this level. If tried chemically the plant would die.

This image is the same pineapple when ripe. As you can see the pups are much larger now.

In this last image there are 60 pups that came off of 4 pineapples. Each will product a fruit in or around 24 months.

I grow most stuff in closed containers:

Left to right: dwarf-mango tree, black berries, dwarf-banana, and 6 pineapple plants.

At the moment I'm back to 6 pineapples only. However in another 18 months or so I will be back up to 60 pups or so.

So to answer your question... yes there are other enthusiasts out here.  ;D

Leroy, do yourself a favor & order some salmon from Alaska. The critters in LM are loads of fun to catch (and I've got a few hundred under my belt), and taste OK, but to truly appreciate smoked salmon, or non-smoked for that matter, wild Alaska salmon to what we have here is as walleye compared to pike, bluegill to bass.

As long as you're paying the Fedex, have them send some halibut too. The line-caught ones are generally smaller & taste sweeter.

Good eats & tight lines,

Hey T2 Tom, I was just in your town for 3 days. Stayed at the Chateau Victoria. Had a great time taking the harbour ferries to the brewpubs (Spinnakers, Swans, Canoe Club). The family thought I was just excited about taking the ferries but I had a plan  ;D ...went to the Bug Zoo, Minature World, various gardens and the lighthouse. Great time.

Sounds like a plan Tom. The ales were good, but not as hoppy as I usually prefer....but, the atmosphere more than made up for that minor shortcoming. Cheers.

Yep, the 2400 is on my wish list too. I assumed that your "lustre prints" were with the Epson Lustre paper (which they may be from your custom lab, which may run a 4800, 7800, and/or 9800 for their commercial work).

These particular lustre prints are made using Fuji Crystal Archive paper on one of three types of printers, depending on print size: Fuji Frontier, Polielettronica LaserLab, or Durst Lambda printers.  They do great work that's guaranteed and delivered quickly...but I'd still love that 2400 for one-offs, gotta-have-it-nows, or limited runs.

Spring Hill is about an hour and half from me. We go there 4 times per year as we have a account there.  Having never heard of Pace I looked it up on the map. While I really like the handle it is just to big a target for me with these storms.

Actually Pace is the High Point here.  We get a storm about every 10 - 15 years here except last year and the year before.  The last two years are the only ones that damaged us.  They are normally a lot smaller.  The biggest factor for this area was no power, although I have a Fifth Wheel Camper with a generator so we did alright.

Welcome Deb. Hope you enjoy the forum. I monitored it for several months before biting the bullet (so to speak) and purchasing the BS. It's been great fun. By the way, according to the bylaws of this forum as I read them, anything containing EtOH is considered not only a gadget, but an essential piece of kitchen equipment.

IMO do yourself a favor; if temp swing are important then get the older model smoker. I have one and I don't really  have temp swing, Icerat has two and he does not really have any. Any it takes a little more time of your day getting the box balanced, but once you do it is pretty much on auto-pilot after that. If you are wanting to maintain a plus minus 2 degrees @ 150 F for sausage then get the swimming hubby of your to make you a PID controller.

How I do Tenderized Marinated Bottom Round Roast- I like to get a large(5.5 to 6.75 lb.) bottom round roast. I forget which part of the cut this is, but it is NOT bound together with twine. I buy papaya extract in bulk- if I could find without salt I would prefer it; no one sells it without- I rub down all surfaces of the roast with olive oil and basically apply enough tenderizer that the surface of the meat flesh is hardly visible. Often, I will add a mild beef rub. Then what makes the difference--- I have one of the Jaccard tenderizers, the one with 36 or more spring loaded swords that deeply pierce the meat. The roast gets poked to death on all surfaces(I'll Leave on a trimmed, thinned cap fat) until essentially all of the tenderizer and rub is driven down into the core of the roast. Then, fresh squeezed lemon juice I use fresh if possible) is squirted all over and the same piercing attack as before, allowing the lemon juice to also get to the core(red wines work too, but add their own distinct flavor, and don't break down the tissue as drastically over 12 hours). I do this in a pyrex 9 x 13 - cover with pastic wrap, marinate 8-12 hours. I usually turn it and roll it around in the juices. On a grill I set to one side ,use a burner at the side farthest away and keep it as close to 220* as I can. I cook to rare(140*) with a remote probe thermometer. The very first thing I did in my BS-D6 was a 5 lb, just like this, with two and one half hours hickory- about 8 1/2 hours total at 190-220*. I chose that to start because I know how it ought to come out. When cooked to the rare side of medium rare to rare, it cuts with a fork. I hope this works for others- it makes a fair roast of beef into a real luxurious treat. Best regards to all, Mike T.

Beautiful place, ain't it? ;)  I'm about 60 miles (by highway) SouthEast of Sioux City in a small town where there's almost as many pets as people.

Wildcat, at least yours are original. :)  My favorite so far, though, is "buy a hammer on one side, then go get hammered on the other".  Another is, "we sell all kinds of screwdrivers - straight, phillips, torx, and vodka".

AT&T  8)  ???

Funny we have changed names so many times in the past 4 years it gets confusing.  I started out with AT&T wireless services, got bought by Cingular and changed to Cingular, got bought again and changed back to at&t (notice the lower case), and instead of wireless services we are considered the "mobility" division of at&t.
