In anticipation of the upcoming Krewe du Smoke 2014 I thought I would make myself a muffuletta. You need a large round loaf so I had a friend of mine at a local bakery bake me a large round muffuletta loaf.

Next, coat the bottom half of the loaf with olive salad

First layer is ham

Next layer, mortadella
(http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr340/lnjrudolph/muff4_zpsa7e939ee.png)
Next layer, cotto salami
(http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr340/lnjrudolph/muff5_zpse60e73f8.png)
a layer of provolone cheese and then repeat the same 4 layers and top with more olive salad

Place the lid of the loaf on top of the 8 layers of meat and cheese

Wrap in foil, place in frig with a plate on top and a weight on top of the plate for a few hours. When ready to eat, preheat the oven to 350, remove the plate and place the foil package in the oven for 20-25 minutes. Slice and eat.

Sorry the pics are so large, I can't seem to find where to change the image size on Photobucket any longer.
Thanks for looking.

KyNola's Central Grocery (closed Monday) Special. I'm ready.

Looks Yummy!
Pictures do not look too large to me. Perhaps my eyes are getting too old but those shots look like just the right size.

Same here. At least on my phone the pics are sized perfectly. And looks yummy would be somewhat of an understatement! Gonna have to try it, I love olives. Of course having had nothing to eat but a cup of broth and some jello since Monday a well seasoned dog turd sounds like a gourmet meal right now.

Wow Larry, thats a huge sandwich. But looks great. :)
-
I'll take a 1/4 please, an Abita, and a bag of Zapps!
-
Pictures perfect. Wish I could attend the N O gathering but not this year.
That sandwich looks unbelievable.

Hey Larry, thanks for creating a waterfall in my mouth.
-
Wow that looks very good Larry
-
Fantastic, Larry!!!
-
Larry, looks delicious.
Is the olive salad something you can buy, or did you have to make your own?
-
I bought mine but recipes for olive salad are readily available on the internet. Just google up "olive salad recipe".

You've done NOLA proud with that masterpiece Larry :)
-
Larry, All I can say is wow!
-
Looks absolutely fantastic! I like how you warmed it up to bring the flavors out!
-
YEP Something else I gotta have while in NOLA. Thanks Larry!!
-
My two favorite places in NOLA for muff's are Central Grocery although I am not all about standing in line and Napoleon House. I actually think I prefer Napoleon House over Central Grocery.

That looked so good I just had to try it. No mortadella so I subbed sandwich sliced pepperoni. One big a** sammich! Thanks for the inspiration.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/14/2u7y3u2u.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/14/uhe9ena6.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/14/7a4y8ete.jpg)

Looks really good TF!
-
That looks like a winner to me! Very nicely done.

With just me and Mrs TF to feed it'll last a while, the thing was huge! We ate 1/4 of it last night for supper, will eat another 1/4 for lunch today. Time will tell how it turns out, but I vac sealed and froze the other 1/2 for future eats. I'm thinking if I thaw it, foil it again and reheat in the oven it should be fine. I'll let you know when the time comes. Next time (and there will be a next time, this thing is delicious) I'm gonna find a smaller loaf to build it on. Thanks!

Just to update, we thawed out the half of this sammie that we had vac sealed and frozen, and it turned out very well. Some was foil wrapped and heated in a toaster oven, some I just microwaved and either way it was delicious! Will be making this again for sure.
-
Looks like it just came from Central Grocery! Nice
-
Larry,
That is an awesome Muffuletta!!! I'll take a 1/4, a bag of Zapps, a COLD long neck Bud, and some Zydeco playing loud in the background!!!
