Title: How to translate meat cuts for Australian butchers
Post by: aussieBBQ on September 20, 2015, 06:01:14 PM
Hi All,

Does anyone have a American to Australian translation guide for Butchers.
Nearly all of the butchers look at me blankly when i ask for a Pork Butt.

Can someone please let me know what i need to ask for from my butcher (cut, prep etc)

cheers

here is a  link that should work

http://culinaryarts.about.com/od/beefporkothermeats/ss/cutsofpork.htm

as far as i  know pork butt and boston butt are the  same cut,,, you  may  want to   print out the  pig diagram and  show it to your butcher ,,  point to the  boston butt ,,,, say i  want this... :)

Thanks beefmann

its really frustrating when i go to a butcher and they have no idea what i'm talking about. Its their trade they should know all the main terms, especially when over here in Oz there are so many cooking shows featuring pulled pork and use the butt terms.

O well ill print your diagram and see if i have better luck - nothing like a picture to make them work it out

cheers
