Thanks Tominator, I took the "cheap" route once and the agony was not worth doing again...........

Based on my personal experience and "consumer" freindly atsmosphere, no one has convinced me to stray from Chez Bubba at this time...on a per puck cost, the variation is not worth it to me for Kirks time tested consistency in delivery.  Sure, West Coast shipping costs might be a tad cheaper, but again, well............you read the above....

Now, if I found the same price around the corner, then that's a different story as far as cost savings to me...but on the other hand, I like having stuff delivered rather than driving around in the So Cal heat this time of year too!

I haven't ordered from Kirk yet, but that time is coming. If the difference had only been a few bucks, I'd not have bothered with the link, but being unemployed makes the approx $30 difference worth the wait to me.[B)]

I will probably purchase my pucks from the Chez site.  I had already ordered my smoker and oredered the pucks before I joined this site. I initially bough my smoker in Canada, and my first load of pucks from http://www.chefscatalog.com:80/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?cmCat=search&itemId=cprod4690005.  I am sure Kirk would appreciate our business, and I believe in supporting folks I know.  Chez Bubba works for me, and I like no sales tax when I purchase outside the state.

Comptetition keeps the price down.  To make it worth one's while, a business person has to watch the market and stay competitive.  The one tangible thing that makes the difference for me is dependabilty-having the product in stock, and good service.  I don't think Kirk will let you down.

Maybe the others match service.[;)][;)][:D]

I'm sure we could sell a lot of product just processing orders through our website to the Bradley warehouse & being the cheapest game in town. It's just not us, we want to provide a service that treats customers like we want to be treated when we're the customer. If your purchasing is dictated solely on price, we're not for you & I'm cool with that. Diff'ernt strokes.[8D]

We don't ever want to be Cabela's, we actually use what we sell.(And Bradley stuff is all we sell!) We sold a smoker to a guy just because I could tell him what an extra rack set was good for. He had called (insert virtually every internet dealer here) and was told "Gee, I don't know, but we sell a lot of them so they must be good for something."[:0]

Didn't mean to go on a diatribe, just splainin' our outlook on life.

Peace in smoke[8D],

Just placed my first order with Bubba (cover and aluminum pucks)
Will let you know how it goes :)
Now I have a question (which may be answered in other forum topics but I haven't gotten there yet)...what is the species mix and percentages in the "Special Blend" disks?

N/M...I just got time to read a little further in the forum..du-oh..I did however try to smoke a chunk of cheddar with the SB...didn't turn out real well...think apple is the way to go.

Dave,

Your order will go out tomorrow USPS & you should see it early next week. I've already got it packed up.

Special Blend is the smoking equivalent to a hot dog. Scraps from the manufacturing process get gathered & mixed. The only exception is mesquite, which is strictly isolated.

We have one customer who claims he's tried all the flavors & prefers SB. Albeit, just one. I find them rather indistinctive, yet you certainly won't offend anyone.

It all boils down to your personal taste and that's why it's so cool that you have so many options.

Ya I will still continue to pay Chez his price of <b>33 cent per puck</b> on a purchase of <b>120 pucks.</b> Rather that pay "37 cents per puck" on a purchase of 480 pucks!

What is interesting is if I order on a given day, two days later it is here.

 <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">Boxes of 48 ct wood for the bradley $ 15.89 + "real" shipping cost to you!

Not to take sides here but why so defensive when someone is just sharing a deal with others? I'm sure Chez is great to deal with and I placed an order for a few things today but that doesn't mean that someone else doean't have good customer service along with good prices. The shipping doesn't seem out of line to me. It's by weight not price. Chez charges me $9.23 for shipping and the other place is $9.25. The difference in price for the pucks is $4. This is especially important to those of us that don't get the 10% discount.

str1der I fully understand where you are coming from. I sure you and everyone here knows I'm Pro-Chez if all things are equal.

I looked at johnintx1 declaring in his posting that "this is a great deal," the best one around. I look at what I would be paying for a 120 pucks <b>without the discount</b> from Chez and with my shipping cost I come out ahead. Not by much... about $3.00 per box. When I look at this savings and I times that by the 4 - 120 box purchase requied by the other vendor that johnintx1 posted about, I just saved $12.00 by doing business with Chez! In all fairness to all members, don't you agree this should be pointed out as plainly as possible?

johnintx1 I just don't understand this statement...please explain it. <b>"And your not telling the truth on the shipping cost."</b> How is it I'm not telling the truth? Shipping cost from whom?

I guess I was talking apples and oranges (or should I say apples and pecan). I'm not buying 120 puck boxes. I was referring to 48 puck boxes. I'm not sure how much smoking I'll be doing and haven't settled in to what type of wood I'll use most.

New member, a guy from Texas who responded to every single post as if every post was to him.  Redundant, illiterate meat inspector apparently  wrote some threatening emails to Chez.  Didn't go postal...went meat inspector.  Changed his name and then came back again.  Always had to get the last word in.  It is a sorry time when someone has to be excluded, this was that time, and most cheered when it happened.  No doubt he will be back with another alias...who knows, might be lurking now.

I'm a little confused by this whole shipping cost and price per bisquette thing.
I get most of the bisquette flavors at a local store for $16.99 per 48 pack.  Since that's by far the cheapest and there's no shipping, I get most of my pucks there.  Kind of like what some other guys do w/ Canadian Tire.
But they don't carry Pecan and I wanted to try it since everyone raves about it.  I went to Chez's site (notice the capital Kirk...lol), and shipping to WA is $13.54 for 1 pack of 48.
I found a place on eBay where I got it for $23 including shipping.

Believe me, I'd <b>MUCH</b> rather buy from Chez, but $23 vs $33.50 was kind of a no-brainer. (I don't get the discount BTW, but it wouldn't make much difference)

To me, it's not just price.  I mean, I would buy from Chez even if it was a couple bucks more, but it's pretty far off.  Someone tell me (Kirk or anybody) what I'm missing[?][?][?]

I believe you would know if he was lurking. A guy like that can't keep his mouth shut for long and the minute he opens his mouth you will know it is him because he is such a dumb ass!  My <u>experience</u> along these lines is just let him die a quiet death and go on with your life because he nor anyone else who causes you grief is not worth the effort it takes to get upset.

Man, I am ready to smoke something!  I have been ill for a few weeks now and just have not felt like doing it (smoking).  The last thing I smoked was an eight pound turkey breast and it was the best I have ever eaten.  Just the two of us finished it off in about 3-4 days.  I have some pork chops that I think will be next or maybe some ribs.

I continue to be so pleased with my BS.  For once, I have everything all together so that cooking doesn't mean looking all over the kitchen and garage for every tool or item I need.  It is no longer a chore but is fun to do now.  Can't wait to try something different.  I am thinking about Oldmans's Ham a lot lately.

Paul,

I touched on our basic situation here: http://www.bradleysmoker.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=936&whichpage=2

It pretty much applies to all our products. I don't want to spend the time to get actual facts, but in a nutshell, you'll pay the same shipping for 1 48-pack as you would for 3, maybe 4, maybe 5.

Calling us, you'd pay actual UPS because it would pertain to your exact order & not have to be so generalized. Email me your zip code & I'll quote you real shipping.[:)]

I had planned on a long saturday of smoking, when I open my cabinet and saw I had no wood!!   I ran to a Gander Mountain sporting goods store to grab a box or 2.  They had alder, cherry, maple, apple, and hickory for ........$9.97 for a box of 48!!!!!!!  I couldn't believe it.  I now have a nicely stocked cabinet again.  last time I was at the local Cabela's they wanted $39 for 120.  This comes out to $29.91 for 144.  not to shabby.  Chez, sorry I posted this.  I'm a small business man too, & I hate it when someone tells me what Lowes, Home Depot, etc are selling their washers, etc for.  I always pitch our service, just like you do. i was just in a pickle for wood. (hmm, that doesn't sound right)

PAsmoker,
Can't find much on your profile - is that Pennsylvania or Prince Albert?
Sounds like a smokin' (pun intended) deal you found.  I'd love to stock up again, but don't recognize gander mountain.

Gander Mountain used to put out a nice mailorder catalogue like Cabelas but I believe Cabelas bought out that part of their business. I don't believe you can order on line anymore. They have a few stores. I might not have all the facts correct but thats what I remember (memory isn't that great anymore).

No problem PA, a deal is a deal is a deal. We can't help it if someone is trying to liquidate their inventory for far below cost. Heck, if they were closer, I'd run out & buy everything they had.

Many happy smokes with the bargain wood![:)]

Ya think next time I check into a hotel & they ask "Smoking or Non?" they would mind?

Whitetail, I live in Pennsylvania, not in a can (you know, "do you have prince albert in a can....") I'm in a town famous for Lebanon Balogna (or Lepnun Baloney as it is commonly referred to around here)

Gander Mtn seems to be expanding.  They're mostly in the Northeast & Upper midwest of the US.  According to their website, they're up to about 90 stores or so.  I usually shop my local sporting goods stores, but I'll occasionally venture to a major retailer to nose around.  I now have a Cabela's less than 1/2 hour east of here and a new Bass Pro Shops less than 1/2hr west near the Gander Mtn.  Glad I'm not in that line of business. I do like the laidback atmosphere at GM much better than Cabela's or BassPro (that and BassPro is way too expensive compared to most everywhere else around here).  I'm definitely not a mega-retailer fan, contrary to what this post may seem like.

In the sixties Gander Mt. use to do the majority of their business through selling rifles by mail order, but a change in the law but an end to mail order guns. I haven't heard about them until your e-mail. I'm glad to see they are still around.

One just opened yesterday in Kingston, NY, about a 30 mile ride for me. Sounds far but it is convenient. Kingston is a unique city that has a majority of major department stores located in one small area, and you can get all your shopping done fairly quickly. I'll check it out next week, after I do my shopping at Sam's.

And a big thank you goes out to Lee Harvey Oswald & the short-sighted, panic-stricken legislators at that time. Just more red-tape, not really addressing the issue--or lack thereof.[V][:(!]
