Title: ET 73 question
Post by: dick621 on February 14, 2007, 04:48:39 PM
What does it mean when the ET 73 reads HHH?

That is a high temp indication. Manual indicates >410 degrees gives you "HHH"

Usually happens with a shorted probe.

Thanks arcs.  Misslayed instructions.  Was cooking a tri tip on the gas grill when It gave me that reading.  Had to go to my wifes instant read.  Turned out good tho.

Well, I have fried my share of probes. Last was on the weber. Had a flare-up and that toasted the non-stick insulation under the wire braid. I am on number three....   :o

From the Maverick home page for parts here: http://www.maverickhousewares.com/parts_and_service.htm

As you can see, $12 for a probe, so there is some incentive to not drink while using these things.  :D

The Weber thing was a fluke: cooking a Christmas prime rib and it was only on for about 10 minutes when it went flame-on. (Apparently due to my continued inattention to the grease/fuel build-up in the bottom of the Weber  :o)

It was spectacular. The rib was okay, but the ET-73 probe was not. I always keep a spare now for idiot moves.  :D

Acords;
Are these the same probes that come with the Maverick or are these probes made to withstand higher temperatures then the original equipment. If it is the original equipment that price is about $5.00 more then what Maverick used to charge for a replacement, and Allied Kenco sells them for $12.50; but it would probably be the same cost after shipping charges.

The high temp probes are not "stock" to the ET73.  They are an upgrade as far as I know.  Maverick does not charge shipping/handling, but I'm sure it's built into the price.  They send USPS, so 8 probes cost about 2 bucks for postage in a bubble envelope.  Original replacement probes are 12 bucks apiece

Thanks for the information. I didn't realize that Maverick had that accessory.
