I know the flavor wood you use depends on the food you are smoking and all that, I just want to see what the most popular is amongst the forum members.
I voted for Alder, Cingnut....but that's just because I suspect that the only food I'd get on this island woud be seafood!?!?!? If there were fur or feathers, instead of just fin, that wound up in the smoker, that might complicate things.....
I went with alder also. ;D

LOL... Don't take me TOO literal. Just imagine you could only ever have one flavor smoke for the rest of your life. All the food options still available, just one smoke to compliment them all. One smoke to rule them ALL!!! LOL
Old hickory is the smoke for me.....at least that's what I have the most of. ;D It reminds me of my
childhood................HICKORY SWITCHES :o
Coyote
Oak, nice middle of the road flavor. ;D I hate commitment :D
I am with coyote... Hickory for me too.

I'd have to go with pecan. Good with all meats IMHO.
I'm trying to vote again......
Aren't we playing by Chicago rules?

I like to use Alder for smoked cheese and apple for pork but my #1 favorite for sausage and jerky is hickory .... so that's how I voted.
Favorite Flavor is 5' 2" eyes of blue.... oh favorite wood smoke -- Oak.
I like the way you're thinkin' Olds. ;D
I voted oak as it's a good allrounder ;)
Don't know what food i'd be eating? it would depend if Micki had been noodling that day? ;D :D ;)
I voted for oak. I have found it good on almost everything. May be a little harsh on some things, but that would just be a matter of less time in the smoke.
I voted Apple since that's my favorite for the porcine critter, and that critter is the one I like best. :D
Help me out folks.... I want a big sample on this poll, my 6 rack is on its way, and I want to order some pucks and bubba pucks before it gets here.
Hard to help you very much. Woods range from sweet to mild to heavy. It really depends on what you smoke and personal taste. Order a little of all, i.e. the variety pack.
Hickory, Mesquete, Pecan, and Oak are generally accepted by most as the prime woods for beef.
My favorite for beef is Oak and Pecan, but for other things, like pork, I prefer Apple and Cherry.
I believe most use Alder for fish.
HOLY COW! 99 views and only 24 votes?? Lots of visitors?? I assume only memebers can vote.
the worst is cherry, gives me a headache :-\
If it was only hogs on the island i would say maple
if it was only chicken on the island i would say pecan
if it was only beef on the island i would say oak
if all i would have is fish to eat i would say alder
if only veggies were growing i would say apple
;D
Thanks WCK. I forgot about maple (which I am out of). It is good on pig.
Fire up the RV, stop in SD have lunch with Gizmo, Owrstrich and I downtown at HashHouse and then it is Maple Hog Belly on Sunday. Gotta leave NOW though ;D ;D ;D

I suspect someone that returns is also counted as a view.
cingnut: It does really depend on what's actually being smoked, but it's also fun to experiment.
I voted oak because it can be used to smoke lot's of stuff, results depending on what's being smoked can be from ok, to awesome! so imo oak would be a good choice to start with.
I also really like hickory and maple, but to be honest all the flavours are lovely ::) ;D it's all down to the chosen food and personal taste, but the experimenting is a lot of fun ;)
