I spoke with a representative from the Company today, and she told me that it is in production, and will hopefully be available by Christmas. I didn't ask for specifics (like if it cools the air mechanically or if it's just an offset box like many have built, or have a fan to push the smoke into the regular cabinet, etc.), but I did ask for a ballpark price, and she said it will probably be in the neighborhood of $100 (just a guess on her part too).
If I find out any more information, I'll be happy to pass it along.
sounds interesting, will have to look into it when it becomes available....
then might have to reconfig my smoker to accominidate the cold smoker part.. as for a fan on it... makes me wonder if ther would be to much air volume through both units to do any good?? and or use more bisquitts... hummmmm
TT;
Thanks for the information. I'm curious as to what the final product will look like, it's features, and price.
If it is a $100.00, it better have some bells and whistles for me to give up my cardboard box. :)
QuoteIf it is a $100.00, it better have some bells and whistles for me to give up my cardboard box.
My understanding was that it is just an offset box to replace the cardboard box but for $100 (no doubt £100 here in the UK!) I would have expected more.
As Habs says, it will be interesting to see the final release price and specs? :)
It'd take a lot for me to give up my cardboard box and dryer hose combo.
Yeah, me too!!! :D :D :D :D :D

I'll let ya'll know if and when I find out any more information on it.
I hope it makes it accross the pond, we still haven't seen our version of the propane BS yet!
It was supposed to be released back in the summer (http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/sad/sad0083.gif)

QuoteI hope it makes it accross the pond,
John Watkins at Grakka told me about 18 months ago that the cold smoke unit would be available in the UK. It seems to be running a few months behind schedule but hopefully their plans are still the same and it will be released over here. :)
There is no way that for $100 it can be anything but a remote box. The issue with smoke moving through the contraption is easily solved by placing the smoke cabinet slightly higher than the firebox. I have used a metal box made from aluminum heat ducting sheets into which the firebox is inserted and then connected it with expandable dryer hose to the smoke cabinet. It works like a charm. But contrary to other contributers I would all give it up in a flash if there were a more elegant way to connect the pieces. :)
Here is my set up. I'm actually thinking of putting a 'T' in and a couple dampers, then I can run it to either smoker or both. My PID for the Bradley is on the cabient next to the table. The cold smoke box is under the table. On the table are the Bradley and the modified cold smoker made from an old fridge,

looks sharp... if i were to put a damper in.. I would consider a T and a damper to each smoker so that i could use different flavored wood and have the availability restrict any cold air entering the cook box
Pens;
Nice setup. Are you willing to sell your unit for $100. :)

Thanks, I have been wanting to make this for a while now and finally finished it.
I probably have about $50.00 tied up in the cold smoke box. That includes the metal for the box, stainless door, hindge, hardware paint and ducting. But I also have about ten to twelve man hours in it.
It looks good and works great but to make it by hand it would cost more than $100.00 to sell. If you had an automated machine stamping them out and spot welding instead of wire welding the whole thing, I'm sure you could do it much faster and cheaper. This is 16 ga. steel with an 1/8" SS door and hindge.
Ya did a fine job on that Pens! 8)

It looks very well made. I was kidding about the $100; I would have guessed it is worth a lot more. It's a piece of very impressive workmanship.
Nice looking work Pensrock!
Pens, where do I place my order? :)
Great set up.
Thanks everyone. :)
QuotePens, where do I place my order?
HCT, I do not think you would want to wait as long as I did to get it made. :) I cut/bent/fabbed the pieces about three months ago. But just got around to welding them together a week or two ago. Then I drilled all the holes and primed/painted/assembled it. It always seems to take longer when you design/make something for yourself. It did come out pretty well though and works great.

HABS, it helps a lot when you work at a fabrication shop with nice equipment.
Just a thought because I'm home alone and there's nothing (as usual) on TV. If I just had another OBS without the smoke generator, couldn't I just piggy back them or run a my dryer hose from the top of the original Bradley to vacant port in the other? ;) Anyone have a Bradley without a smoke generator?
Sure you could do that. I think on here somewhere someone else bought a different brand square smoker real cheap and set it right on top of the Bradley, so the smoke goes from one unit into the other.
West Coast Kansan is the one. He bought a $50 sale priced box at wally world and uses it for cold smoking when needed for extra space. It will just sit on top of the bradley and the smoke goes up out the bradley vent and into the burner hole of the box on top.
I have two Bradleys myself. I really only smoke with the OBS primarily. Maybe I should set up the DBS to be a cold smoke only. Hmmmm, if only I could find the time ;D
Well, unfortunately I only have the one OBS. My Big Easy arrived today, however, and it came in a cardboard shipping box that should work wonderfully for a cold smoking attachment. 8)

Good idea! Though I find using a small liquor box works better then using a box that is larger.

I could always cut the box down to size with a razor knife. If I got a liquor box, well then I'd have to drink the liquor! :P Then I would probably have to take a couple of days to recover... ;D But if I must..........

It is an offset box with a flexable metal pipe that connects to your smoke tower
( :) no it does not come with the digital generator :))
Excuse the quality of the pictures i took them in a hurry.
Awesome! Thanks so much for taking the time to post them. That looks like a pretty solid piece. Well done! Thanks again. I know this will sound like a stupid question, but is it safe to assume the inside of the box will hold the standard Bradley water bowl or will a different one be needed?
SD
I like the looks of that! It's fashion, It all matches, It's soo {oops my inner hazel just slipped].
Does look pretty good though.....
Sign me up!!! ;D
I am a sucker for a gizmo and that sure beats a cardboard box. Sign me up!!

Looks great!, time to retire the trusty cardboard box i think, i have a question though, when will they be available in the u.k. ?
Thanks LilSmoker (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s62/Gitster59/Tip-Hat.gif)
I think I will have to give up my cardboard box also. Anyway, the last one I accidentally left out in an ice storm.

They should be available in the UK within a month the container is scheuled to leave Canada by the end of this month.
Has a price been established yet?
Putting my dealer hat on in 20 minutes to call for that information when the toll free line opens this morning.
Suggested retail is $99.00, and I have a couple on the way.

Hey SS,
Talked to my rep. yesterday. They are not quite ready for shipping yet and are just getting them into their warehouses. As soon as we have them available I will let you know.
If Tiny gets them in before me he is a great guy to deal with also.
Bryan
You got it LQ.
Thanks for the kind words, Bryan...I say the same about you. If I can't hook somebody up in a reasonable time, I point them your direction.
I have not yet ordered from Bryan, but his rep is outstanding from what I have read. I have ordered from Tiny and I have nothing but praise for him. Both are members in good standing here so it is hard to go wrong with either of these gents.
Tiny Tim, Bryan from Y & P, or Brian from Bradley, I'm in! Somebody hook me up!!! PM me and I will happily exchange whatever info you require.
Merry Freakin' Christmas to me!!!!
KyNola
P.S. Showed it to my wife and she said "Cheese and salmon!!!!" :D You guys can't disappoint my wife.
AAHHH KyMan...smart fella...!!! ;D
Got part of my order this morning, and by looking at tracking numbers, the cold smoke units will arrive tomorrow. Willing to place another order this afternoon if I need to, to cover increased demand. :D
Hey Tim,
Check your PM. Does anyone know if the Cold Smoke Box comes with a lomger connector cord for the BDS models? I'm concerned that the existing one will not reach from the box over to the tower.
KyNola
If you're cold smoking, do you need to go to the tower? I've never done a cold smoke with my DBS, just OBS and quite frankly, it's been so long since I used my DBS, I can't remember now. Only thought that cause I did a cold smoke this morning with OBS and only had to run cord from generator to power source.
SD
SD,
Maybe I'm totally off base(as usual) but I thought I read on one of the posts somewhere that if the thin connector cord was not plugged into the tower that the smoke generator would not power up. I hope I am wrong frankly.
KyNola
You're probably correct, KY. Like I said, it's been so long since I used my DBS, I can't remember. I was hoping for the DBS folks' sake, it wouldn't be needed but I think now that I think about it, you are correct. Hopefully, the Bradley folks have thought about this.
SD
I was just getting ready to PM you back, KY, when I saw your post here. Checked with them as soon as I read your post, and the unit comes with connector plugs that take the place of the cord...supposedly this works.
Box dimensions are a little bigger than I was expecting, so they won't be able to be shipped using the Flat Rate Boxes. Going to send you a couple of options.
Much thanks for looking into that, Tiny! See, KY, I keep telling you I'm a nit-wit. Sooner or later, people will become believers ;D
SD
Duck, you ain't a nitwit...not sure what I'd call ya sometimes though :D ...I would've assumed the same thing. I wanted a good answer so I went to the source and got the information I needed.
Hey Tiny, you could always ask the question that my wife always asks me:
I wouldn't call you a nit-wit either..... maybe a little Daffy (Duck) at times though. ;) ;D
Just kidding SD. :)
That's okay Pens.......maybe I try too hard to make people laugh and I come across as Daffy and that's okay by me. I'd rather look like a fool at times to make someone laugh than look like a genius and make people cry. Life's too short to take yourself too serious and I try to live by that motto!
SD
Thanks Tim, if you haven't done so already check your PM again!
KyNola
Quotemaybe I try too hard to make people laugh and I come across as Daffy
No not at all, if people did not laugh, life would be pretty boring wouldn't it.
QuoteLife's too short to take yourself too serious and I try to live by that motto!
Could not agree more.
You're OK in my book Duck. I don't care if they do think you're daffy or a nit-wit! ;) I'm not sure but I think even LQ thinks you may be OK too.
KyNola
Ok guys.... Group hug! :o
SD.... make sure ya got that helmet on though! :D :D ;D
You guys are killin' me here! :D :D ;D
Mike
Tim,
I think your PM will have all the information you require to complete the transaction for the cold smoke set up. Thanks a lot! Guys, I can tell you dealing with Tim is really easy. Very professional.
KyNola
P.S. Oh Duck, put your helmet on.
Thanks for the kind words. We'll get this finished up tomorrow as soon as I have the product in hand.
You'll be cold(er) smokin' by Christmas.
Me too Tiny?
Yep...should anyway. Gotta check the shipping, USPS might be cheaper and/or faster to get it to you. One was being held for you. I'll PM you with some info that I need.
Well, we got them in early this afternoon, and I have to say that I am impressed. Nice solidly built box with a magnetic door seal for bisquette bowl access. Duct hose is mounted to some nice plates to connect them to the box and cabinet. Comes with a sensor plug to bypass the small cord on the digital units, as well as a mounting plate so it can be used with the Portable Propane model smoker.
According to my friend Tiny Tim, my cold smoke setup should be making it's way to Kentucky. Can't wait to try that little jewel out!
Thanks again Tim!
KyNola
Did anyone get one of these yet? The Yard & Pool guys were a little bit shy I guess, but they have them in stock. Mine is on the way.
Does anyone know if Bradley will be selling the longer cord for the DBS by itself? I've been contemplating turning the DBS into a dedicated cold smoke unit and would build my own cold smoke box as I can't afford the price tag of theirs at the moment. It would be nice if they sold the longer cord by itself though.
SD
SS,
I bought one from Tim although I have not had the opportunity to try it out as of yet. It is very well made. I am looking forward to running some salmon through it soon.
SD,
The cold smoke set-up comes with a "plug" type thing that you plug into the smoke generator , disconnecting the sensor cord that normally runs from the generator to the tower. They say it works, sure hope so.

Go to Radio Shack and pick up a longer cord and the plugs for under $25.00
Radio Shack 273-1740 Power Cord .

Thanks Giz! I'm definitely going to make the DBS a dedicated cold smoking unit.

Hello
Bradley will not be offering a longer sensor cable for the DBS at this time.
Another trick you can do is to take your existing sensor cable and cut it in half then add whatever length of wire you need.
I would suggest you solder the new wire to each end for a better connection.
The original sensor cable has 2 conductors in it.
Hope this helps.
Thanks Brian. I'm probably going to have to go the Radio Shack way. I could probably find a way to solder the wires together in such a way that it would cause an electrical meltdown from here to the eastern seaboard......I'm not sure I could take that many people mad at me at one time ;D
SD
SD,
I would do it Brians way. I looked at the radio shack prices when I built my cold smoke box and they are quite pricy for what is needed. I ended up findind a place on the net where I could buy just the ends and made my own for a couple bucks. But I do not remember whick jack is needed right now so I cannot point you in that direction. I'll look to see if I can find the information.
pens
Pens,
Remember that when it comes to electrical things, I'm like Edward Scissorhands......however, if you think I can do it, maybe I should have some faith in myself. Actually, I think I have a friend who knows how to do stuff like that. Pointing me in the right direction would be essential.
Thanks, Pens!
I'll try to find the parts needed, I do know where I bought them.
But doing it Brians way is probably the easiest. All you mreally need is a soldering iron and tape. Now if I were doing it I would heat shrink all the connections after soldering. :)
Let me do some searching.
SD or any others that need to extend the sensor cable on the BDS.
I bought the following plugs and put my own wire on them.
The parts are $1.25 each you will need two, plus a piece of two wire cable however long you need.
(2) DC power connector. 2.1 mm x 5.5 mm x 9.5 mm plug
I bought online from www.parts-express.com
Part #090-477
Had them ship it US Postal First-Class Mail, to save on shipping costs.
They have this wire item #100-280 for .45/foot. I did not buy any myself because I had plenty of two wire cable at home.
But this should work just fine for this application.
This option is much cheaper than buying pre-made cables at Radio Shack.
Pens
Thanks for taking the time to look that up, Pens!

I just ordered one today! (Thanks Yard and Pool!) I'm flying back home to the SF bay area Monday and the first thing I plan to do is cure a couple of pork butts for buckboard/hillbilly bacon... ;D While that's curing I have a couple of turkey breasts I think I'll smoke and fry in the Big Easy (will be the first use of that too!). Can't wait to thaw out a bit and start smokin again...
