So Im in the middle of a bacon wrapped chicken breast smoke when I open the door to check the it with my new Thermapen when the entire door FALLS OFF :o :o :o :o holy crap now what, i positioned the door on somewhat so I could finish the smoke, anybody have any ideas as to why my door fell off?
LTS
You we not using mesquite were ya? ;) ;D
Just kidding, I have not heard of this happening before, perhaps the hindge broke? ???
LTS
I can't say I've heard of that either. ???
If it is still under warranty I would call Bradley. If it's not I see Bryan over at Yard & Pool has both the hinge and the hinge pins. I'm assuming it's one or the other. Here's a link...

Mike
WOW!
Mine has developed a gap in the seal, but a bungie cord fixed that. I have a new seal I ordered from Yard and Pool, I just have not installed it yet.
The only thing I can think of is catastrophic hinge failure.
Is the unit under warranty ?
I had no idea that mesquite would do that. Now where is that teabag ?
Yikes LTS. Thats terrible.
LTS,
Are you serious? I know you are but holy crap...that is amazing. I'm sorry for what happened and have absolutely no advice except call Bradley if you're under warranty. Otherwise, Bryan at www.yardandpool.com he will hook you up.

4 months old I will be calling Bradley in the morning
I had the same thing happen about a month ago..... one call to Bradley solved my problem! New door arrived within just a couple of days :D
Yeah, Bradley!
I've had my Bradley take a 3 foot fall off a cart and bent the hinges, but the door never came off. The only way I can see the door falling off is if one of the hinges loosen up over time. Eventually loosening enough, or coming off completely, allowing the door to detach from the body.
I think as part of my periodic maintenance I'll now check to make sure the hinges are secure.
the top bracket fell down inside the door on mine.... it was nothing that could be repaired easily. Bradley just sent me a new door. The bottom hinge pin can be easily checked, but I haven't really looked at the new door closely enough to see if there is any adjustment that can be made to the top hinge bracket.
Bradley comes through again talked to them this morning and they are sending out a new door and a new bottom hinge ;D
LTS
LTS,
did you inadvertantly push up on the door and push the lower door pin out of the hinge?
I was installing my fan last week, had OBS on her back, bumped the door toward the top hinge, and the bottom pin came out of the bottom hinge. The door sits on the bottom hinge sorta like a patio door sits in the rail--insert top, push way up, then set onto lower hinge.
If thats what happened, you'll have a spare door soon. If not, Bradley took care of you as always.
get smokin
drano
Holy bacon wrapped chicken Batman!!!
Glad Bradley came through again, as usual, great peeps.
does anybody know the correct way to install the new door? , don't want to mess up the new one
LTS
I cannot say for sure but from reading others posts it sounds like the top needs to go in and pushed up, thus allowing the bottom pin to slip into place and when the door is lowered it is done. I hope its that easy. Maybe you should wait till someone else who has done it replies. The other thing you could do is just call Bradley, they should be able to guide you through it right on the phone. I talked to Brian before and he was very helpful.
My turn....just now, looks like the bottom of the door broke off where it sits on the knurled pin. Got dim light in the well house so hard to tell, but its Fubared....Gonna have to look tommorrow in the daylight On the bright side got brisket done (other thread) and did some oysters maybe other thread. Not sure if this will be fixable....we'll see! All that dang mesquite.......Huh go figure! ;D ;D ;D
C
Westex... For real???
DO you have an OBS or a DBS?
Mike
Yes that is what happened to mine also the plastic broke around lower hinge pin and thus door went rolling across garage floor
LTS
Bingo....I think, gonna have to look.....not pretty either way!
C
Do the people at Bradley have any reponse to this!
The pain! The pain of it all! WTS, send a pick so we all know what to look for!

Mike
I'm curious if these are OBS or DBS that this has happened to. There are a few differences between the two, some of which are the lower front of the unit. I'm just wondering if there is any difference between the models regarding how the doors are mounted.
Mike
PS
Maybe SD could take a couple of pictures of the door mounts on both units that he has or have a look at them side by side to see if there are any differences.
Hey Mike
Its an OBS when I get home from work today (hopefully early) I'll get it out onto the porch and see what were looking at, and take some pics. Hopefully I can get it fixed/rigged up good enough to work, planned on a some serious smoking the rest of this week!

On the bright side, I just got off the phone with Bradley customer service...And once again they are incredible and are shipping out a new door next Monday..WooHoo! Now I just got to fiqure out what to do till it gets here!
C
I just went and had a look at my DBS to see if it was the same and by the looks of it I think they are. They seem to pretty much mount to the plastic trim panel of the door. I couldn't take a picture of mine because of the way I have it installed in the garage.
I'm glad they are looking after you guys. Just seems odd that we've never really heard much about that and then all of the sudden ya got two! Oh well... what do you do...

Mike
I was thinking the same.......you think it's mesquite? ;D I wonder if the production dates of the smokers are similar? I've seen numerous occasions with different items where there was some blip in certain production runs and you have something like this happen.
SD
Well... I think WTS's could be explained by Mesquite but I don't know if we can say definitively if that was the cause for LTS's. :D
Mike
Well my smoker has seen a awefull lot of smoke lately but it has not been M smoke BUT............................it is no virgin either, as in its younger days it did get the M treatment so maybe that weekend it a little
LTS
Ok how in the heck do you get the door off the top hinge pin....looks like it should just slide right up and out, but there's not enough clearance...I've got a plan (I know scary) to fix the bottom till the new door arrives but I can't get the SOB off!!
C
It's tight, but it will come off. You have to work the door out at an angle while lifting up. Best I can remember, pull outward on the bottom of the door until the door is at about a 45 degree angle to the smoker, then lift and work it off of the pin. It's a little tricky, but it can be done. i just fixed mine a few weeks ago.

WTS
Try this open the door to about 120 - 150 degress then lift up on the door. As you lift up push the bottom of the door away from you.
You might have to push it almost to a horizontal postion at the same time keep trying to lift it high enough to get the top pin to come out of the hole in the hinge
hope this helps

Cool! Now, until your new door comes in, you can load up your smoker, completely wrap it in tin foil, and LIGHT THE MESQUITE!
Seriously./....... I guess in a pinch one could just do a foil wrap and keep on a smokin' !!!!!
8)
Door repair....Not pretty but functional! Took the jigsaw to a 1 x 4 and cut a piece that would just fit into hole, secured with 2 screws then covered with JB weld. Let sit overnight then drilled a hole for the hinge to sit in! I will not be denied my need for mesquite! ;D

Got new door, got new door on, smoked a chicken yesterday turned out awesome
Bradley customer service rocks
Thanks

Word on the street is that there is a bacon wrapped chicken recipe that might blow your doors off. I guess you found it! :P
Now that its off, think outside the box. Make your smoker open like a DeLorean or something...put some bling in your thing. Isn't this smokin' stuff fun???
When stuff breaks, its just asking for a little modification.
Better luck in the future!
Patience
WooHoo! My new door arrived today, but I think I'll just leave it in the box for now. The repaired one is still just a rockin along!
C
You'll have to keep us posted on this one and let us know which gives out first, the JB Weld or the rest of the Door.
