Title: Cardboard box ok for cold smoke setup ?
Post by: FLBentRider on January 16, 2009, 04:21:06 PM
I thought I saw some posts about using a cardboard(paper) box to house the smoke generator and then use a dryer vent hose to pipe the smoke to the cabinet. All I can find via search is wood.

Is it safe to use a corrugated paper box ?

FLB, That's what I use and have no problem. I know I got the idea from here.

The cardboard box smoke box it very safe. Just make sure where you cut the hole for the generator none of the guide rail assembly is touching the cardboard.

It's gotta be cheese, don't have the lox ready yet...

Here is my "setup"

I don't plan on it, this should be the "stock up" supply for a while. I still have some left from the December 3 smoke.

Looks good FL!

I'm going to do some today also but no cardboard box required.  It's -2 right now.  I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit before I venture outside.

Deb, only -2 send some of that heat my way.
It was -20 this morning here.
No need for a cold smoke box here this weekend.  :D

16lb's of cheese all smoked, vac sealed and in the chill-chest. It did not take on as much color this time, and most of my pucks were only half-burnt. Still smelled smoky, though. The cheese did not sweat at all, unlike the last time. box temp got into the low 70's.

Sounds great FLB. I try to keep the tower between 60-85 when doing cheese.
