Lin,
I have one of the units and must say I was very pleased with the product.  It appears to be very well built.  It is almost instantly ready for use as soon as you open the box.  Hang the smoke generator on the cold smoke unit, attach the "hose" to the cold smoke unit and the tower of the Bradley and you're ready to go.  If you have the digital model, it comes with a "plug" to plug into the smoke generator to make it think it is still hooked directly to the tower via the thin connector line.

Really simple to use.

For whatever reason, (too busy fishing, I reckon! ;) ) this is the first time I've heard of this adaptor. A quick check of the Bradley website reveals nada. Appreciate any help on finding out where to get one of these? ???

QuoteCold Smoking Adaptor arrived today that a job for Paul to get if all fixed up and ready for action.

I think the cold smoke adaptor is great, the only small word of caution I would advise is when they say "gently" pull the aluminium hose to expand it they mean gently!! I needed an S shape out of mine to fit my smoker shed and whilst I thought I was being gently I was not gentle enough and the hosing fell apart! Perhaps my idea of gentle (I am 6ft 6 ins tall and 19 stone!  ::)) is not their idea of gentle!!

No biggy, I am sure I will manage to get another more substantial length of hosing from a builders merchant.

Two other points:

The cardboard box it comes in would make a great cold smoking box!!

If anyone is short of or loses the digital smoker adaptor plug in let me know, I don't need mine and am happy to pass it on if required.

Now that is what I call a bargain. Two cold smoke units for the price of one. :)

Are the hoses made so that they can be changed easily?

I have one....and hell if I can use it here...the thing works...I'm thrilled with it....our highs are in the mid 70's right now and I put one bag of ice in the tower...cool it down nice and I am a cheese head girl.... SWEET...I am awaiting the hot temps to really test it out....but...as far as assembly...it was a piece of cake...no directions necessary...

Gonna order one for Mom as well... :D

Certainly easy enough to get the old one off!! They seen to be glued or sticky taped in place with a metal retaining band providing a firm seal / grip, however loosening the screw that holds the band in place means the hose pulls off easily.

Biggest problem I am having is finding a hose with the specific diameter needed, doesn't appear to be an off the shelf size?  :(

Manxman;

Thanks for the information. I guess I will order one, I left my cardboard box in the rain today.

Tiny Tim;
Do you have any left? If so I'll place my order with you tomorrow.

I can believe that, your summer ambient temps are enough to melt the cheese. :P

Yes.  Fairly substantial radiator hose type screw clamp.

Quotefinding a hose with the specific diameter needed,

A quick search on the internet found suitable replacement hosing.  :)

I think you will be impressed Habs, good design and build quality seems fine. (other than the hosing!  ::) :-[ )

Also the digital smoker adaptor and propane smoker adaptor increases it's functionality.

The biggest benefits as I see it other than not having to cut holes in cardboard boxes (!) is accessability to the water bowl and also that if I was smoking on a windy day cardboard boxes seem to get blown and move a bit, I always had a slight concern that the cardboard would get blown against the heater element and ignite so I tended to weight them down with a house brick or block of wood. No need to worry about that now.  :)

Sounds good.  Was just getting back online to send you a PM when I saw your post.

Getting ready to leave to get Dad from the hospital, so you probably won't hear from me again until tomorrow (we'll finish this by e-mail rather than clutter the board with other possible questions).

I know I asked this somewhere on the forum but cannot find it. So here I go again.

Can someone explain what the 'propane smoker adaptor' that comes with the cold box looks like and how it works? I may want to make one to use with my propane smoker and home made cold box.
Thanks,
pens

It's kind of hard to explain, I'll take a picture of mine and post it.

I'll try to explain it. Basically its a 8.5 x 8.5 inch plate, that looks like the side of the generator that the heating pad protrudes from. It has the to key hole hangers, and there is a 7 7/8" x 3" section cut out 1.5" from the bottom and 3/4" from the side. It also has 4 pilot holes. You should be able to make a template or measure from your propane smoker where to drill those four holes. The holes are for the four screws that connect the top shield and lower connection bar on the propane smoker.

Pens;

Here is a photo of the plate.

PS

I would send you mine, but I plan to use mine when I steam sausage in the cabinet, the plate is almost ideal to cover the hole in the side of the cabinet. Also I will be using it on the cold box when I use a hot plate to apply smoke from wood chips or pellets. That is if I can find a hot plate small enough to fit in the box.

Thanks Hab. I'll have to get the propane unit out and get a better look at it. It should not be too hard to measure and make one.
Thanks again for the pic and info.

Thanks a lot, SS. I made my own cold smoke box a little while ago and want to use the propane smoker with the cold box when I need to use the big smoker. I always used it with a propane burner to smoke whole turkeys and sausages. So the heat made by the burner was needed and I just put a pan of wood chips on the burner.
But lately I have been doing a lot of cheeses. Last year over 200 pounds. So if my propane bradley will make the smoke in my cold box, I can run it into the big smoker and keep the temps low. I can probably do fifty pounds of cheese at a time that way. I have no electricity near the big smoker so the propane will be great. It gets old smoking cheese on every Sat and Sun all winter long, this way I can still do a lot, get a break and maybe get a brisket or pork butt in the Bradley.
