Jimmy came to town last night.  Buffett that is.  Summer in Toronto in November.

An amazing show, maybe the best show I have been to since 1975 when I was a young kid, working at the arena he played, with a fifth of Southern Comfort stashed in my jacket.  Who the hell is Jimmy Buffett I remember asking. And then I cleaned my bank account out and bought every record he ever made.  I don't drink SC anymore but I think I still have to listen to one Jimmy song or more every day.

Since we are Canadians and the government has to protect us from ourselves, we always miss the tailgating aspect of a Jimmy show.  Next tour I am hopping the border and catching some shows on the US leg of the tour, for the tailgating if nothing else.

Jimmy played some songs last night I have not heard live in forever.  Some highlights were a verse of Lets Get Drunk and Sc*w injected in the middle of a new song.  A solo version of He Went to Paris, Pencil Thin Mustache, Come Monday.  Of course the other classic were dutifully played and a few new ones chucked in.  Amazing that a guy 62 can still play for almost 3 hours and I think would have kept playing if they let him

People watching was phenomenal.  I have not slipped into full parrot head regalia yet but I am getting closer and closer the older I get. We had everything.  Guys in coconut bras and grass skirts, pirates, parrots, the most incredible hats.  If you have been to a Buffett show, you know what I am talking about.

A heck of a show.  Jimmy never disappoints.  He promised to come back next summer. At least it wont be a year to wait....   Maybe 8 months.  Man I need a beer and few hours sleep.......
All I wanted to do was slow smoke some ribs.  Another addiction created thanks to the Bradley that requires regular servicing...  But what an addiction to have.  Even better to share here with some of the best people on the planet.

Would you like smoke with that sir ?

Jimmy is great.

I think ZZTop is touring Canada now too.

Jimmy's pretty much all about the marketing these days but I still go to the concerts, buy the CDs, have a JB channel on Pandora radio, etc.  I don't however, buy all the t-shirts and other Parrothead paraphernalia (or go to his overpriced & mediocre restaurant/bar in Waikiki).  I've seen him a bunch of times here and on the mainland (most recently here earlier this year) and am known as one of the first guys in line at the Waikiki Shell on concert day - not exactly tailgating but a good party.

I, too, thought his concert this year was one of his best for pretty much the same reasons as oakville - great mix of all his stuff from the early days to present.  It seemed even better since I was pretty disappointed with his gig at New Orleans JazzFest last year (first time I ever heard him with a terrible sound system).

Amazing the way he brings in such a cross section of people.  There was a kid next to me at the last concert - early 20s, full tats, mohawk hair, & piercings, but he knew every word to every song (old & new) and was having the time of his life.

JB is not that great a singer but he's a terrific entertainer, songwriter, philosopher, and author.  If I couldn't be me, I'd probably want to be Jimmy Buffett.

I will trade places with JB any day of the week !  Plus I will take his blonde back up singer in the spiked heels to boot !

I agree, maybe JB does not have the best set of pipes going but he knows how to work a crowd.  I have probably been to thousands of concerts over my lifetime and had my share of big money disappointments....  paid big bucks for the Eagles reunion tour a few years back only to  hear a bunch of musicians sit on a stage and try to create the songs perfectly note by note.  I love live performances for the interpretation of the music and JB always gives me that. I have a really good idea of what I am going to  get and have never been disappointed.

The demographic he attracts is timeless.  Last night was almost a party for a bunch of middle aged boomers.  Beside us are senior citizens, behind us are 12 year old kids.  The music seems to span all interest areas.

I will be  lined up to get tickets next year when he comes back and hopefully.....  I wont have to go to work the next day, like today.

Mid day, my liver is shrinking but the little brain matter I have left seems to be swelling against my skull.

Phins Up !

oaksmok, JB is a heck of a live concert to see. You can get your money's worth just viewing the side shows.

AND, some fine looking women are always there. Oh Yes, the music .... He still has fun. Cheese Burger in Paradise

Tina Gullickson!  SWMBO and I joke about "passes," those people you couldn't possibly expect your spouse to pass up (and would have to forgive) if the (totally unlikely) opportunity arose.  We're each allowed a list of three which changes from time to time.  Tina, however, has maintained her status on my list since I first saw her in the mid-late 90s.

Since it's segued to a new conversation, I'll put my #1 out there in case I ever find a woman to take me and agree to those terms.  Faith Hill (as long as she promises to dress like she does for Sunday Night Football intro), since I'm already on her list. :D
