When I cook steaks and burgers, I go old school.  I also don't do charcoal or gas.  Only concrete blocks, rack, wood, steaks - easy, quick and mighty tasty!  Don't have to uncover the grill/smoker, don't have to clean up ash, don't have to wait 20 min for charcoal to get ashed over, don't have to worry about buying charcoal or gas, don't have to wait for the grill/smoker to cool down so you can cover it up, and I don't have to carry downed limbs to the front to get picked up by the city.  All I have to do is round up some newspaper, some limbs, touch the match to the paper, and put on the meat.  EASY!  The store had some marked down choice tenderloin yesterday.  Got three cuts from the middle and an end.  With that meat all that is need is salt and pepper - anything else is almost a sacrilege!  Don't have any pics of the end result - It got dark and the AF doesn't work in the dark well, so I cut it off and went MF.  Well, forgot to slip it back on and the rest of the pics - shall we say - soft focus!  Sure turned out great - It's been quite a long time I had any tenderloin - they turned out nice and rare inside.  Did anyone say anything about tender - Like Butta'!

Fire getting going good, before being knocked down - and for inquiring minds, I don't wet the bed after playing with fire!

Fire knocked down and the rack getting ready to kiss the meat

The meat all dressed up ready to go on a date.

Meat at the dance, getting all familiar with heat and smoke!

Another view of the working side of the rack!

Simplicity works doesnt it CS? And I bet they tasted just as good if they were made on a $3000 grill.

I am absolutely positive that they tasted better.  When my wife and I camp, that is essentially how we cook steaks. At home I have a grill that I can cook in the same fashion or I can use charcoal. I also have a portable fireplace that I can cook in the same fashion in areas where a normal campfire is prohibited or could be too dangerous. IMHO high heat chunk wood cooking simply cannot be beat when it comes to steaks.

I am glad you posted this Caneyscud.  ;)
