Hi all,
I've been searching around for a good smoker that I can mainly use for cold smoking.
how good is the Bradley Smoker for cold smoking?
I have read the article about using a tube and a box with the Bradley, but I'm not too keen on spending the money to then have to b*stardise it for cold smoking.
All feed back and suggestions very gratefully recieved.

Thanks All

Simz;
Welcome to the forum.

I have only cold smoked about ten times for short durations of 3 to 6 hours, all with good results using this set up http://www.johnwatkins.co.uk/personalpages/coldsmoking.htm . The generator is detachable so you are not making any modifications to the BS. Other things to consider - fill a pan or two with ice to help keep the cabinet temperature down; keep the BS out of direct sunlight; and smoke during the cooler part of the day, it is hard to get the BS below the ambient temperature.

     I
         don't
                   inhale.

Simz,

Please define the temperature range you'd like to maintain and what you plan to smoke. Some things can be cold smoked at 110F, while others can't go over 70F. That will give me what I need to answer your question most accurately.

If you do a search on the net I believe you will find that by untilizing the Bradley and adding an extra box between the generator and the chamber that this set up is most effective and does not add heat to the ambient air temp.

The Bradley is the only unit I know of where you can set back the generator.

I have used the BS quite a lot to cold smoke using the simple and cheap modification in Habanero Smoker@s post.

It really could'nt be cheaper and more easy to set up, more of a minor addition and in essence the BS is being used in exactly the same way as originally intended apart form a cardboard box and bit of tumble dryer hose being inserted in the process, the smoke generator or smoker box does not need b*stardising in any way..

However, if a more permanent set up is required several members have made their own cardboard box alternatives with a minimum of effort.

Really easy to switch between hot and true cold smoking and the benefits far outway any downside IMO. [:D][:D][8D]
