I have 15# of beef sticks hanging in the smoker but the main element will not heat.

I am plugged directly into the house outlet.  Metered at 118volts
All cabling has been checked and reinserted.
The digital works
The Puck Burner works
On the electrical plug that goes from the controller to the smoker it show 30volts  <------ problem?

I guess for now I will smoke and then finish in oven.   Do not know how that is going to work with a box temp of 70degreesF

If you want some heat with your smoke, get yourself some charcoal briquettes, toss them in an aluminum pan and get them lit. Then put the pan in the smoker. That should hold you until you get the box fixed. Keep the vent open.

when you get thru smoking and putting in the oven take your Elec cord and connect it straight to the back of the Bradley box and see if you elements get hot.

Just do it long enough to see if they work or not.

Hi Standles

You may have a wire off inside the smoke generator when you can open the generator up and check the wires on
the back side of the plug your short power cord plugs into

Standles,

After you set the temperature, make sure you hit the "Oven Temp Set" button one last time.  That was one of my original "hang-ups" when I started with mine.  I learned with the DBS, you push "oven temp set," set your temp, then press "oven set temp" again.  Being a true guy, I only found this by reading the manual after two frustrating smoke episodes.  Of course, the AC plugs between the Smoke Gen and the element gave me troubles as well, so I actually had two issues.  Make sure the plug is seated good by giving it a firm push in.  It may visually look seated, but that last 1/8 to 1/4" can be the problem.

Since I don't have a schematic of the power distribution, the 30 volts you see at the point are checking may be normal.  If you have a digital meter, see if there is any DC voltage as well.  The heating element may be DC or only require a stepped down AC voltage.  If it is just a stepped down voltage, it is coming off a transformer in the smoke generator box.  (I used to be an electronics technician in the AF before I retired and started my second career.)

Well the sticks had the smoke on them (for what its worth) and I have them in the oven now.

I did plug the ac directly to the element and it was heating up.  I didn't leave it on long however, before I could touch the element this time it was a real quick touch :)

Guess I will open up and look for loose wires tomorrow.

Thanks for the help/suggestions.

I had the exact same problem yesterday. On mine, I found one of the brown wires to the fuse was not completely connected. I took it off and crimped it down and put it back on. The element came on right away.

Ok I opened it up and found no obvious wiring problems.

I checked for corrosion on connectors and such.

rechecked all the connectors and such.

Nothing was amiss that I could see.

Still see ~30volts out to element.

plugged element straight to 110 again an verified it got red hot.

Guess I will give Brian a call tomorrow

15 lbs of sticks in your smoker is 10 lbs too much. It wont come up to temp with that much hanging. Try breaking the sticks down next time in 5 lb hangs.

Hope it all comes out good for you.
